Suppressors and barrel length

I have a 28 nosler with a 24" barrel that I use for deer and elk. I recently purchased a suppressor that is 6" long which makes the gun seem really long. Most of the time I'm deer hunting in box and ladder stands and having to get used to the added length. Someone suggested changing the barrel to 20 or 22" but I don't want to lose that velocity because I'm running 180 hybrids and feel the loss of 100 fps will affect how they perform. I like the idea of the suppressor vs my directional brake especially in the box stand even with ear plugs. I know I could get a different rifle but I really have confidence in the 28 NOS.

If anyone has this same dilemma, I'm open to any suggestions.

The loss of 100fps is pretty much nothing

Are you actually shooting far enough that your chosen bullet is right at the edge of impact velocity needed to expand?

Play around with a ballistic calculator with your current and theoretical muzzle velocity

I've done quite a few 20-22" 28 noslers.. the last one i sent out was running 175 eld-x at 3076fps single digit ES and easy on brass.

What's to get use to? You're in a box blind, you're not packing it for miles. You could stick a 40" barrel out the windows with no issues.

You could create a folding stock or a two stage stock. This would allow your set up to go a little smoother. You would maintain your original barrel length but mess with the a aesthetics of the rifle. The Function would be what you want. JDS Good luck.

keep the 24", ditch the suppressor, and spend $300 on quality in your ear electronic hearing protection that you could use for all your shooting.

Yeah but maneuvering the long barrel in a box blind without hitting the roof or banging on one of the windows is the issue. I have set it up out the window right when I get to the stand but feel like the deer can see that long pole with titanium suppressor hanging out there.

I have the noise part covered it's the concussion that's the issue.

No. But the loss of velocity makes a difference on how quickly the animal expires. I hunt thick areas with swamps and although the slower bullet will kill, it's just not as dramatic especially with the bergers.

How far are these shots and what is your impact velocity

You'll be fine, just keep it as is. A couple of inches shorter doesn't really change how it handles in a blind. You can hit a shorter setup on the roof/wall/window just as easily.

If you do cut a couple of inches off, performance will be just fine. You're not losing enough velocity to matter.

Whitetails ain't exactly the Einstein of the animal kingdom there pal. I can 100% guarantee you that deer aren't smart enough to notice a barrel and suppressor sticking out of a blind as long as you're not waving your barrel around like a flag.. They see that blind every single day of their lives and absolutely pay zero attention to it. Yesterday morning I sat in a lawn chair in the wide open and had 7 bucks and 8 does come within 200 yards of me, and not a single one saw me. It was like I was invisible. You know why? Because I sat still and had the wind in my favor. That's all you gotta do to kill deer....

If you were shooting 1k yards, maybe.
Out to 500-600, not so much. Impact velocity difference of 100fps doesn't come into play much unil you near terminal performance thresholds for proper bullet expansion. The difference between 2500fps and 2600fps is nothing that a game animal will notice, or bullet performance. Now, 1800fps and 1700fps might make a difference due to bullet construction and minimum impact velocity for proper expansion.

I wouldn't cut an existing barrel down on a 28 Nosler. I would wait until the barrel is shot out and rebarrel at that time.
