Staball HD

Per QL representative, Hodgdon will no longer provide them with data on any powders they distribute. They have no issue getting data for the European powders. Unless this changes, likely not, we will not have any newly released Hodgdon distributed powders added to QL.

I started down the path to us Staball HD in my 6.5 PRC. Went to my QL, was surprised it was not listed? Sent an email to QL asking for data, this is the response I received.

Hi Randy-
Unfortunately no. on both accounts.
here is why-
I would love to have the new powders ( including for my personal use) however, Hodgdon is the keeper of the data and holding theirs and the others it distributes hostage... hodgdon has so far not released any of the newer powder data. This means unfortunately I do not expect any new powders except from European mfgs for the time being.
Hodgdon being the keeper/ distributor of the powder are holding the data hostage refusing to release the data saying QL is wrong. Personally I think they are afraid of lawsuits in this US sue happy litigious environment against manufactures. It is a miracle we are able to do or have anything at all without someone thinking ya might get hurt. I am beyond frustrated. We do not seem to have an issue with Vihtavuori or other European powders only US due to Hodgdon.
If you contact Hodgdon, they will tell you QL is wrong and will not release the data for all their distributed powders. I think they forget or refuse to recognize QL is NOT a load manual and As you know QL is NOT a load manual and still recommends you consult a real mfg load manual for safety.
So my recommendation ( and I use personally) is IF it is not in our database do not buy it. Please see the attached the current powder list for easy access.
The other Data is constantly being updated with the new cartridges and projectiles as they become available. To update one may do so both disc and download, see below
All the best
Renée

btw you could contact Hodgdon and complain! It would be in their best sales interest to release the data to us.

Loved the closing lines. I have those as sticker on my pickup tailgate. I also have one picturing the pair stating "Dumb and Dumber. You would be suprises as to the 👍 up.
Now Hodgdon has a chart showing their comparison of powders temp rating on several of their powders. Why and the He** they can't update it and put out what StaBal is! I learn a hard lession in powder temps over 25yrs ago. Never used IMR powder again, except for light loads to fireform cases. My go to powders are H powders. I hunt in temps from -20 to 110+. Some powder increase by 1.5 drg's for each 1 drg in change. That can be a lot of different of POI at longer distances. Even if you take the means of the temp, that is very close to 100fps. Velocity changes of 30fps move the POI about 8.5", and 50fps changes 14" @ 1000yds. So 100fps is one h*ll of a lot.
I agree with Randy. So telling me that StaBall is temp insensitivity doesn't cut it. I have some staball powder in 1 lbs can, but there it sits.
Hodgdon owns most of the powder manufacting in this country.

That sounds pretty fishy on Hodgons part 😡
I kinda makes me feel like they don't want the American reloaders know load data 😡

Mine were too in the 7mmRM but not too bad. The temperature stability, low ES/SD and good accuracy trump 50-100fps IMO.

Howdy All
I seen Sta-ball HD mentioned in a thread, and though maybe someone has been using/trying it this summer.
I have been very busy and have not had time. ANY LOADS OUT THERE USING HD. THANKS

To add = thinking of trying it in 264WM with 130gr OTM Tactical.
What is your thoughts.
It is well suited for that use!
