Have been a follower of this site for to long, just joined mainly because of the amount of solid, straight up commentary here. Has anyone or know of anyone who has attempted to use Staball 6.5 in a 6.5x284? Cross checking from different references, the closest equivalent information I could find was for Hydrid 100v, I was considering loading 4 rounds starting at 44gr thru 47 gr under a 140gr Speer Gold Dot to test. I have a remote firing system for safety. Any input is greatly appreciated.

FWIW Staball 6.5 140 Speer Gold Dot Lapua brass Federal 210M primer .030 from lands temperature 50 degrees 44gr 2575fps, 45gr 2618, 46gr 2681fps, 47gr 2774fps from Magnetospeed V3, will try 47.3, 47.6, 47.9, 48.2 next. Also the 46gr and the 47gr were touching at 100 yds.

I think I would try a different powder. Your not really getting the available speeds for the cartridge you are shooting. My 6.5 creedmoor, even a 6.5x47, 260 rem could get to or really close to the speeds your getting with that powder. I would maybe look to h4831s RL23 then that would wake up your 6.5-284 I think.

What I have found with the staball is that when you start reaching top end charges it gets real touchy As 26 reload said the hybrid 100v will be a good choice I have had good luck with it in several rounds rl 23 might be a good option also

Is there any data for RL 23 in the 6.5 Creed. I was looking at some 142ABLR and RL23. I just haven't been able to find any data on it yet. Anyone running it?

Using 140gr Hornady BTHP Match, Fed 201M primers, Lapua Brass (new FL size only) in custom XP-100 with 15" barrel: 46.0 to 49.1 gr Staball 6.5. No signs of high pressure. Not tweaking anything else, groups ran 0.75 MOA to ~1.5 MOA. Max. load 2,557 fps over magnetospeed chrono. Will likely play with a little more, try some other bullets and mess with sizing, seating depth etc.

This is more or less a dead thread and issue. Stabal 6.5 is too fast for most projectiles that a 6.5x284 is interesting for. Now that more appropriate powders are more available, I'd look for one of them. Perhaps if you decide to load your 6.5x284 for varmint work with a light bullet it could be interesting, IMO. But why waste the throat of a 6.5x284 on varmint sized quarry.

Hodgdon has no data for 6.5x284 for Stabal in any variety. When I number crunch Stabal 6.5 for my 6.5x284 with Quickload, nothing great comes out (in terms of case fill (I like 100% in sweet spot) and velocities). I cannot QL Stabal HD as that data is not in QL.

The original post was probably because the OP could not get anything else.
