solid 243 for 600 yard

I also have a VLS 243 and loaded 105 hybrids .010 off the lands with H1000 and boy what a shooter!!! I have to single feed it but with the accuracy I am getting it is ok with me to single feed.

I wonder how bad it would be to shoot this qualifier using factory ammo..?? I see that both Rem and Win .243 with 100 gr slugs runs right at 2960 FPS....??? All I need to do is qualify...not shoot for points ( for score).??? Hmmm??

EDIT: I checked and I have a box of 105 gr Hornady BT Match slugs and also a box of 105 gr Berger VLD HPBT's....??

Sully its not likely that the factory ammo will actually shoot 2960 if it does the extreme spread will probably be close to 100fps, also remington core lokts and win power points in 100grn have about a .3 bc, with that kind of ammo its more like poking and hoping instead of qualifying. I would hand load the 105 Hornady hpbt match pills over 40-42grns of H4350 with a .030" or .060" jump, weigh your cases within 1.5grns and use CCI BR2 or Fed210M primers and your spread should be under 20fps.

Thanks for the input!

i would shoot 87 bergers with a stiff charge of either varget, I4064 or H4350. lapua brass, and 210m primer. you could try 105 amax or a 95 .

Yeh, for some reason them 87s shoot great really screaming out of my 26" savage barrel. I also shoot H4350 (44.5 gr) which is a very stiff charge. I tried less but that's where my gun likes it. My Oehler chronograph says I'm pushing them at 3450fps. Which means at 600yds I only dial it up 8 minutes, with a 200yd zero, and its about 26" inches of drift with a 10mph wind.

i tried a box of 95 bergers out of my buddies VLS. never found a load that was accurate. factory barrels try my patience.

I haven't tried them in that particular rifle, but they will stabilize in a model 12 fvss which has the same length and twist rate barrel as the 12 lrp. They work good with anything from Imr4350 to Retumbo.

This is a really good thread.

I'm thinking about getting a Savage LRP 243 26" heavy barrel.

I'm wanting to shoot the 105 Amaxs... anyone tried them in this rifle...?

Long range coyote hunting is my priority.

i have shot them in my 6br remington. .1"
