The longest shooting range in my area is 300 yds.Where is a good starting point to get out to 1000 yds? I read somewere to sight in 30 inches high at a 100 yds.Is this correct?
What about at 300? Could that be my 0?
thanks for any info

Wayne, what rifle scope combo are you shooting? Do you have target knobs?

It all depends on muzzle velocity and bullet choice. Your initial zero could be anywhere but the simplest would be at 100. I would suggest playing with a ballistics program (JBM is free online).

Think you fill find the 6.5-284 with 140 gr bullet at 2950-3000fps will only need 24-25 MOA up at 1000. Obviously depending on bullet, sierra 142 might be as high as 27.

Should I use the bottom mil-dot as my 100yd zero? I plan on shooting the 142smk bullet.

mr308win,

What part of Long Island are you from? Could we be neighbors?
