I am looking at either the 14x shv or the 15x nxs for my slug gun. I see the nxs has a 3.9 eye relief vs only 3.5 on the shv.

I am surprised at the difference...what should I buy?

Really??

I take it your not very framiliar with NF. The price should be a give away... the NXS is twice as much. If you just want to hunt and your cool with hold overs and basic features I'd save the money and buy the SHV but if you really want to do some long distance shooting/hunting the the NXS is the better choice by far.

Read up on the products you mentioned and see what scope fits the application you need filled.

Good luck

That does not answer why SHV only has 3.5" of eye relief.lightbulb

Any idea why the eye relief is so much less?

It's by design to achieve the scope's intended purpose and has nothing to do with model series (SHV vs NXS) alone, i.e., the 3.5-15x50 F1 NXS only have 3.15" (but not sure if this is at max magnification or a typo on the NF site).

I too would have like to see the SHV with better eye relief, esp., for the high recoiling rifles.

Good luck!

Thanks coyotezapper for the article, I read a similar article (it has some fancy illustrations too) a few years ago but can't seem to find it now.

I called NF...they claim I will notice no difference in eye box/relief compared to the nxs.

The glass is the same also, but the way it is used in the scope is different.

Not sure what he meant by that. I forgot to ask if it will track as good.

As I understand it, the two most obvious differences are in the turrets, and the zero stop. The NXS has zero stop as an option - the SHV has something similar, but not quite. The NXS has exposed turrets with 20 MOA available in a single turn - the SHV has turret caps (must be removed to operate) and only 10 MOA per revolution. If you shop around, you can pick up a used NXS in great condition for a few hundred dollars more then a new SHV.

The shv that I looked at seemed nice enough but I just can't bring myself to spend 1000 dollars on someone's watered down version. I'd always want the higher end one

I just got the SHV 4-14....mounted...its better then expected. Great eye relief, very bright, the moar Is smaller then I expected...but will work fine.

I already have the 22 and 32 nxs...the glass is the same. I was worried about the eye box because of the eye relief specs...but this blows away any other scope I have...very easy to get in the box.

Awesome! Have fun with it and keep us posted.

I just hunted with it....this is on a savage 220...I spent a lot of time glassing with it. It has great low light abilities....the moar is great for me on this gun since I am only shooting 150 yards max. When I order an atacr for my lr rifle, I will for sure get the t.

Very bright scope compared to the simmons that was on it.

I am not sure of all the hate for the 56,,,,,i see some of your points...but wow...the larger 56 sure brightens things up. I really think its a trick the NF did to make their scopes appear to have better glass. It works.
