Scope mounting trouble.

I recently purchased a Riton RTS mod 5 4-16x50 to put on a Browning Xbolt Medallion for a friend. When I went to check the scope height in the rings I noticed that the scope rings are too far apart. The front ring is sitting on the taper up to the objective body of the scope. There isn't any way to mount the rings closer. The only fix that I can think of is buying a Picatinny rail and a new set of rings so I can mount the scope rings closer together. I would prefer not to spend another $80 on a base and that much again on a new set of rings. Any suggestions?

There might be a offset base or ring for a Browning X Bolt. You don't say what brand bases you have. Check and see if they make one.

Return the scope and get a model with a longer tube. That scope tube looks real short compared to others.
I the action a long action? Like 30-06 or something?

Just looked up the specs on that scope. The mounting length is only 5". Other scopes are often 5.5" to 6.5".

Yeah it's a long action 30-06.

Talley lighweights should fix the problem. They have a little bit of an offset.

Some other scopes in that price range and zoom rang tend to have longer tubes, like the Vortex HST below. It has 5.61" for mounting. 5" tube length is kinda short. Probably works fine for a short action like a 308, but not a long action for 30-06.

Thanks for recommending the offset rings. I may just go that route.
