Rugar #1 ?

So far from all that ive read from other postings the Rugar # 1 appears to be very problematic not worth the time or $$
If you are going with what you read, then stick with it. As with anything else, we all have personal preferences and budgets. My "Ruger" No. 1 in .243 Win is accurate and reliable. By design, hardly anything can go wrong with it, much like revolvers. However, nothing is immune to Murphy.

ADDED: I also never paid attention to what others think of my choices, and for that reason, "I" never ask what rifle to buy or build.

Considering the barrel is not free floated and using factory, this guy did pretty darn good to 500Y.

I had one in 375 H&H, sold it at some point, maybe here, I do not recall. It shot well and I regret selling it. I bought it on clearance at Cabelas when they were closing them out so I got it cheap.

Three-piece stocks are a challenge. There is a three-point bedding system for the forearm. Replace the trigger with a custom.

Depending on when the rifle was made, the barrel quality can be an issue. The early #1's were beautiful, but the barrels were junk. Push a patch through the barrel on a tight punch-type Jag. If you feel tight and loose spots, the barrel may be very difficult to work up a load for.

Some gunsmiths specialize in accurizing #1's.

In the 80s, I had several stunning #1s. The beauty of those stocks is incredible, but the barrels were junk.

I had a 1980 something varmint special in 220 Swift. It was gorgeous with fantastic wood. They will drive you crazy trying to get them to shoot small groups. There's problems with getting the front grip just right, the triggers are meh and really difficult to get tuned, and scope mount choices are limited.

Mine was hard to get sub moa for five shots…about the only thing I really liked was seeing 4000+ fps chronograph
readings.

I found myself not using it for fear of scratching up the wood, so it went to a collector. I have regretted selling some rifles, but not that one.

All that being said, I think the full stock stainless version KSI is about the best looking rifle anywhere.

Ive always liked falling blocks like the # 1 and the 1885. Had two Shiloh Sharps from Big Timber, Montana that were both beautiful they shot really well a 38-55 and a 45-90. In the last six years I've saved up and had TS Customs build me two rifles a 17 Remington and a 6 Creedmoor That spoiled me accuracy was not like anything ive ever experienced. Five shot groups in the two's best five shot group went .159. Once I experienced that .75 groups just dont cut it

My 17 Remington shoots 25 gr Bergers incredible well. H 4198. Overall all groups average in the .3. Im still developing a load for the 6 CM but Sierra Match King X is looking super. H4350 and N555
