Rookie mistake

One of my shoulders sunk in while sizing from 7 max to 6.5 max. Curious if its still usable and will fireform, or if its dangerous?

It'll fireform.

Seat the bullet long so it get "jammed" into the lands or create a false shoulder. It will work.

One caveat exists, IF it chambers it will fireform. With that bulge, it may not chamber….
So if you run it into your sizing die and reduce that bulge FIRST, you won't have an issue.

Drop it in a case length gage before you waste a primer and powder on it. That will tell you if it will chamber.

I resized about 200 cases. Completely ruined 3 and dimpled another 5 or so before I got the process smoothed out. Re-fireformed the dimpled cases with no problem. Resize first.

When I set up my resizing die I use the Case length gage to just be under the the max case length indicator.

Before I used these gages I had issues with head case separation due to changing from a Lee press to RCBS. Longer lever arm I think.
Are you changing the caliber of the case or just resizing?
I bought a bunch of 300wsm cases and resized them to 270wsm and never had sunken shoulders like that.

7mm to 6.5mm. I doubt they make case length guages for 6.5 max. But i am not familiar with them

Didn't see that one but I was mainly pointing to a method that works for me.
I have never heard of a 6.5 max.

It's one of Rich Sherman's wildcats. Basically an improved 6.5 SAUM.
