I'm going to have some .243 win loads put together , and the powders i've narrowed it down to is RL17 and IMR4350. I'll be using the sierra 85 gr hpbt, fed cases, not sure which primers yet. I'm leaning towards the RL17, but have only found a few loads for it online. Anyone here have a RL17 .243 load worked up for the 85 gr sierra hpbt?

I did testing with the 87gn Berger VLD almost 3 yrs ago and used RL17 and CCI BR2 primers. I loaded 41.5 thru 43.5gns. Velocity averages ran from a low of 3234fps w/41.5gn to 3371fps w/43.5gn. My rifle's (Win M70 SA HVB) accuracy node was at 42.0 and 42.5gn. Accuracy ran in the .36 - .44" range.

With that said, 43.5gn had some impressive numbers; 3 shot group: 3370/3372/3369 (3371fps avg.) ES: 03.76, SD: 01.41 Accuracy: .8905". Dunno!

Hope this helps get ya started. JohnnyK.

I picked up the RL17 today,so thats what i'll try. Hoping to get a accurate load pushing the 85gr sierra around 3200fps from a 22" bbl. I bought rem 9 1/2 primers, but could of got cci 200's also. Nothing else in stock for lr except magnum primers. Dunno if i made the right choice there.

Hey, give the 9.5's a try. I have developed some very accurate loads with these primers before and have several thousand of them on hand. If these or the 200's don't work, give the mag primers a "shot". I have used them in .22-250, .243 and .25-06 loads. You never know. JohnnyK.

P.S. Remember, with any component change, reduce powder charge and work up. :)
