Remington 700 bolt?

I have a short action Remington 700 that I rechambered to 6.5PRC as this rifle already had a magnum bolt face for a previous 300wsm build. When the rifle was chambered for 300wsm it ejected the spent cases without issue. Since the rechamber to 6.5PRC the empties just fall on the mag and do not eject out. Im guessing it's a length/neck dia vs action opening issue that a double ejector bolt face wouldn't help correct? Any ideas other than get a long action for the build….🤣 (would've but didn't have a spare)? Thanks in advance
 
You can figure out a lot if you can get a slow motion video of the bolt cycle. I was able to use my cell phone's video/slow motion feature to diagnose an issue with a 6 XC on a Rem 700 with an M16 extractor. It was flinging the brass up into the windage turret of my scope and deflecting back into the action. My eyes wouldn't pick it without the aid of the phone/video.
 
I am in the process of a re-barrel project going from a belted magnum case on a Ruger M77, MK II long action to a 6.5 PRC. I considered a 6.5-.300WM among other cartridges and looked up the .300 WSM head diameter on my Hornady manual, and Nosler load data - both had the diameter of the .300 WSM at .535.

Nosler load data has the head diameter of the 6.5 PRC at .532. I measured some 6.5 PRC, Hornady range brass that had a head diameter at .528.

My guess is the Rem extractor is slipping off 6.5 PRC case rims upon compressive ejector force & not providing enough resistance to the spring-loaded plunger ejector to develop enough force to flip out brass when necks are pulled pass the right side of the receiver ring. Possibly, a new extractor would be a fix. SAAMI data shows 6.5 PRC rim diameter at .532 but my Hornady range brass measures at .528, some .004 less.
 
The cause is that brass is often undersize by 5 thou' and bolt faces are often larger by 5 thou' over nominal size. This will allow the rim to slip out from under the extractor causing a fail to eject situation. The plunger needs this tight balance to keep the rim under the extractor so the case is kicked sideways before it leaves the front of the action.
To check this, chamber a fired case, slowly extract it and place a finger on the side of the case as you withdraw the bolt, you will feel either strong spring pressure or the point where the case slips out from under the extractor which renders the plunger useless to kick the case out.
You can have a sleeve turned up and soldered to the bolt face to correct this, but it costs as much as a new bolt as you will have to have a Sako or M16 type extractor fitted.

Currently the Nosler data shows a head diameter of 0.555 and not the 0.535 you noted. My measurements and other resources show either 0.555 or 0.556.

This is a correction to a statement made above (which I quoted) with regard to the head diameters. I stated nothing about the rim diameters at all.

My bolt has the old style extractor btw. I'm going to call PTG and see what they've come across and recommend

Have seen this issue many times with re-barrels.

Is the fix a Sako or M-16 extractor or does someone make a replacement Remington extractor with more grab?

No, the fix is making the bolt face fit the case, doing this removes the factory extractor, which is why a Saks or M16 extractor is required and this is not a bad thing. It costs a bunch though.

It is quite common for the case head to be referred to as the same as the rim, as this is in fact the head size of the case, although rebated.
