Reloading Mystery

Can anyone help explain how I keep getting scuff marks on bullets right above the brass line? These are 190 gr SMKs for my 300 WM. I appreciate any thoughts.

When does this occur? After seating or after chambering?

That's from your seating die, there must be something in there causing that. I had a 264WM seating die that did that, disassembled it and found brass shavings and some polishing compound in there.
Cleaned it all and it went away.

I would say, if after you chamber, carbon ring.
If during bullet seating, it is in the die or alignment collar.

I had that happen with a compressed load in a 338 WM when there wasn't enough neck tension to keep the bullet seated to the proper depth, which likely kept me from hurting myself. A lot more powder options these days, but just a thought.
