have a 300 win mag barrel that I would like to have reamed for 300 wsm. This will result in a half inch or so cut off the barrel and rethreaded. Should not result in pushing the chamber much further forward if at all. Any concerns you can think of?

If your taking 1/2" it would probably be just as well to cut the whole tenon off and start over. That is doable but doesnt leave much of the expose steel shank left.

Why would you go from the wm to the wsm?

Long bullets usually means heavier. The 300 wm has the ability to push them faster.
The wyatt's box extender solves the coal issue. I can load over 3.8" in my r700.
I wish you success which ever way you go.
