I am building my son a rifle. This project has been delayed a year or so. But at this time I am ready to go. I am looking for a rifle that is relatively light weight, low in recoil, but has decent energy at mid range distances. I think that the 6.5 Creedmoor fits that bill. Mainly deer and antelope rifle. The problem is that I have never shot a Creed. One of my employees has one in a target profile and has a lot of good things to say about it. The one negative is that he has some minor trouble with feeding from the factory box mag. His rifle is built on a Rem 700 action. This is the same action that I will be building on. Is this a typical problem with the Creed? Does anyone else have feeding problems with this round? For my son I want a very smooth feeding round for the possibility of follow up shots. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have not heard of that yet. I would assume you should have no problems. Everyone I know of feeds fine but that a small group. They also seem to feed fine out of the ar10 so I would tend to think it has nothing to do with the cartridge itself maybe just his rifle. If he reloads might be his OAL. Who knows I think you found the right cartridge.

Thank you for the response. I assumed that it was his rifle because I have never heard anything about this before. But wanted to check. I think my son is going to enjoy this rifle. Who am I kidding, I think I am going to enjoy this rifle. :D

I had Charlie Robertson of Score High gunsmithing build me one on a rem 722 with a blind mag box and the rifle feeds like glass and shoots factory hornady match ammo into .25 MOA EVERY SINGLE TIME I shoot it. Very happy with the creed for my son. I can not get over how well this thing shoots and the factory ammo has been amazing! I cold bore mapped this rifle over a month long period and put 20 first round cold bore shots into a .37 inch group!

Thank you for the replies. This has helped me solidify my decision. I am sending the barrel and bolt off for fluting on Monday. When they return I will be sending them to my gunsmith for the build. This is going to be a lot of fun! My son is going to love this rifle.
