Hello from Spain! Questions about a Bergara B-14 HMR 6.5 creedmoor

Hi again guys,

Since I got a good load with the hornady ELD M 147 grains bullets, as you recommended me; I am ready to try new bullets and loads.

I've purchased the Sierra MK HPBT 142 grains. My powder is the RS60 (reload swiss), I can buy here the Vitahvuori brand, that as far as I know, some of you like it in the US but it is difficult to find in your country,

But, I prefer to continue with the RS60 because a friend of mine, has a gun shop and he provide me the powder with an affordable price. This swiss power is produced to use in the following calipers:

My rifle has 1:8 twist and Sierra recommend the MK HPBT 142 for this twist. I have not idea about the start load, because there is not data in google, but I found a chart to 140 grain bullets (hornady). In this case the sierra ones are tangent bullets so I might do saami reload to start.

Lets see, any advises are welcome! You know that, although I am European, I like to follow the American style and technique

RS60 has a burn-rate similar to Alliant Reloader 17 and N550. I would look at load data of those and apply to RS60.

40 grains of N550 were safe with 143 ELDX bullets on my HMR.
What velocities are you getting with the 147 ELDM?
Why not try it longer distances and fine tune for LR instead of just moving to another bullet?
Looks like you got a nice load.

First, sorry for my delay. I did not realize that you posted. Here in Spain I can purchase the N550. I did not try it, but some people told me that it is better than the Reload Swiss.

Now due the coronavirus, I have a lot of free time at home, and I got 50 Norma shells also (currently I use Lapua Shells) so I am going to reload the norma shells using these new bullets, Sierra Matchking HPBT 142 grains.

Nice to talk with you again. Currently my reload data is:
SAAMI COAL
ELD M 147
41 grains of RS60 powder
CCI BR-4 primer

Velocity: 820 m/s ---- 2690fps

I am not hunter so I do not use the eld x 143. But the weight is close of the 142 grains of Sierra MK.

The difference is that Sierra MK are tangent bullets, bot not the hornady

Do you prefer Vitahvuori or Reload Swiss Powder?

Hi Padmi,
For this rifle I just want a load to print around 1/2 MOA near maximum velocity (close to 2700 fps) with a short ES and with a high BC bullet to shoot from 600 to 1200m.
For us here its hard to get different powders but luckily we can get Vihtavuori (knock on wood).
No RS60 available but should be able to do it with N560 or N550.
As I mentioned before, in my case, I would keep with those components and just fine tune it for low ES on velocity and check it on distances above 600m.

First, take care with the coronavirus, here in Spain our ******* socialist government it is doing it very bad. I am very angry with chinesse goverment, I had to cancel my vacation in the United States due the virus, all years I go to spent three weeks travelling in your country. You know that I have an European ID but an american heart

My idea is going there on May, I will land in Miami and drive to Portland crossing the East Coast, then my plan is visiting Washington, and Niagara falls. And at the end return to Louissiana to visit a friend of mine.

I was shooting with my loads longer, 600 & 900 yd with very good results. I can remember here my loads:

Hornady eld m 147gr
rs 60 41.5gr
muzzle speed: 840m/s & 850 m/s
COAL: 70mm
Lapua shell
CCO BR4 primer

Sorry, because I am using International system units.

I am very satisfied with my loads. I will include here some pictures soon. Now I would like to try a new bullet so I purchased Sierra HPBT 142gr. That according with Sierra, are designed to 1:8 twist like my rifle.

I think that I can change the powder and use N550 instead RS60. Do you guys tried Sierra bullets?

Any advices will be very helpfull.

Hi again guys,

I got a lot of news to share with you.

I was shooting using Hornady ELD-M 147.

>Lapua shell (neck size)
>CCI BR4
>SAAMI OAL.

I like using the magazine, and for me it is easier as novice, reloading following SAAMI parameters, since I am focused in the muzzle velocity and the powder. And simplifying the reloading helps me to go step by step.

With 41.5 grains I am getting 2756 fps. That it is the perfect velocity to my barrel, I am getting a regular 0.3 TMOA accuracy shooting at 100 meters (not yards). I was shooting 5 shoots per group and getting the average of 0.3 TMOA. Sometimes a quite less and sometimes a quite more.

The problem is that there is no stock in the stores of those bullets until November, I ordered 1000 (ten boxes).

After that I decided to try two new ammunition:

The first one is the Lapua scenar

1. Lapua scenar 139grains
2. CCI br-4 primer
3. Lapua shell (neck size)
4. SAMMI OAL (2.81 inches)
5. RS 60 powder: 2756 fps again, using 41.4gr

At the end, using Lapua scenar 139 grains I am getting a very good accuracy shooting up to 600yd. For expample 96 points out of 100 at 300m or 89 out of 100 at 600yd (Harris bipod and chest support). But the accuracy is worse, I am getting the average of 0.5 TMOA. Also the BC is low, so as far as I know, this is not the best option to shoot longer.

I got other two boxes so I am going to increase the OAL to 2.835. And use it to shoot up to 900yd, and finishing my stock.

The last one is the Sierra matchking HPBT 142 gr

1. Sierra matchking HPBT 142gr
2. Muron primer (large rifle)
3. Norma shell (full lenght)
4. SAMMI OAL (2.81 inches)
5. RS 60 powder 41.5 gr (I did not check the velocity)

Using this ammo I am getting 0.35 TMOA

Here in Spain, people recommended me 140 grains version, but I decided to purchase the 142 one since according the technical data, it is designed to 1:8 twist like in my rifle. Now, while I wait for the Hornady ELDM, I gonna develop this second load. I think that following saami measures, I can increase or reduce the OAL to increase the accuracy and getting a better group.

What do you think? could you please give me an advice? Do you have experience with sierra matchking hpbt 142gr? I have never checked the OAL. I'm going to take the opportunity that I have, since I have time, to try to get a good load with sierra bullets.
