I guess it depends on what's considered long range.
My 14yr old just shot a deer at 287yds with his 243 pro hunter rifle.
He's connected on longer shots on prairie dogs with the 223 pistol.
I've kicked dirt on prairie dogs at 692yds with my 6.5x284 pistol...just couldn't connect that day.
Its all about loading for the gun and trigger time.
If I had a 7mag, I would definately use it.
They may not be the most popular because they're break actions and folks say they can't shoot.
