On storing powders

When you open a new 8-lb jug, unless you use all 8 pounds, how do you store the now open jug ?

Dangle in the top a little desiccant pack on a string ?
Pour the whole jug into several smaller containers ?

Although, an 8# usually lasts me less than a year.

If you want to use the dessicant packs, put the container of powder in a large plastic bag and put the dessicant in the bag before sealing it. I think storing it inside your house in a controlled temperature environment is more important. Storing them in the attic or garage where extreme temps will cause them to degrade quicker than storing them in a closet inside the house.

In my environment? Lid on and in the storage cupboard in the garage. Humidity is not an issue and I have a conditioned garage. Stays between 40-70deg. I've had no problems.
