I recently acquired an old (pre 1980) rem 700 in 7rem mag. I was doing some selling and trading to scratch up the $$ for a build. This is old enough that when safety is on you can't open the bolt. So my ? Is: can any gunsmith change it so the bolt is free in safe position? Also, is this action ok to rebarrel and use? I was just going to sell it cheap to buy a new action. But I can of like it considering it's a little older. I'm trying to build a 7mm rem that will shoot 3/4" or less.

Thanks

There is a extension of the safety on the side of trigger that locks into the bolt. That extension can be cut off and it will no longer lock the bolt closed when the safety is on.

Those ones are no good... Best to dump it and get a more modern one. I'll take it off your hands for cheap...

I have had two made in 1978. Both shooters. Now only own one of them.

I would build something on it.
