FYI the S3 and S5 are very different scopes not just the glass as many believe. The S5 glass is German made Schott and the S3 is made in Japan. The internal mechanisms are different and the S5 is made in Germany in the plant where they make the very expensive Hensboldt scopes. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Zeiss technical support before landing on the S5.
The S3 is assembled in Japan, but it's still Schott glass. The S3 is ED glass. That's why it's $2300.00, instead of $4000.00 for the Fluoride lenses. Compare them to the Victory line vs. the Conquest line. Still amazing optics! Vertical travel is best in class!
Not the same glass as the German made . Call and ask Zeiss. Not as good as the Victory line which I own 5 of to go with 4 of my LRP S5. Ask James Eagleman at Barbour Creek Long Range school they have had students have issues with the S3
