Need Help, tune mv or bc

Honestly with the mv I am getting and the caliber I am limited to prob around 500 yards, till after deer season. The z6i on 0moa bases will bottom out around 650-675 yards. So after deer season. I will switch it out for 20 moa base and a nsx 5.5x22 and gather data at 1,000 yards.

So based on my drop chart that is past 1,000. I will print a new one out to 1,200.

You have your velocity from a labradar, that would be the last thing I would change.

Make sure your scope is tracking, and adjust for that in your program. Make sure that you have the environmentals perfect and entered perfectly. Measure the center of bore to center of scope. Make sure everything you can measure is right. Then adjust your bc.

I usually do two tall targets, one for scope tracking and one for actual drop. Check the scope every 5moa or every mil from zero 40moa. And one tall target stepped back 100 yards at a time to 500 or 600. Shot with no scope correction you can measure drop directly off the target.

First, check your scope tracking on a tall target (0-30 MOA) in 5 MOA increments and record your info. If the scope is tracking correctly all the way through then you know it's not the scope.

Then I would do like Bstick said. You already have your true MV, so why change it. First adjust your BC, then if you can, try shooting it out to 800 (if you can find a place). If it's still off @ 800 then I would tweak the MV. The changes to the MV will be minor after adjusting your BC.

Go to Hornady ballistics, hit calculations and plug in all your data, velocity, BC, bullet weight, sight in distance, etc. Hit calculate, then print. Do it for every bullet you want to compare. This web sight is invaluable, easy to use.

Main thing is to have a true velocity, no guess work!

I had a friend with a lab radar that seemed to.work perfectly. I did all of.my.load development with it. When I went to the range, none of the dope was working....after a couple more range sessions and the purchase of a magneto speed, it was obvious that the radar was wrong. Personally, I wouldn't assume that the radar is correct until you could show verify that. Maybe try adjusting the velocity until you back into your poi.t of impact result and then use that velocity to verify at a different distance.....good luck.

Shooting good, annual doe jamboree is off to a good start!
