My budget .257 WBTY build ...

I started loading the 133s/135s but I stopped. I am waiting for the 145s (I should be getting them in a week or so) and will load them instead.
I took some measurements with the 145s; as seen below, CBTO touching the lands is 2.848" (average of 5) and COAL of 3.441"; I plan on starting at .020" off the lands as the baseline. I have plenty of magazine clearance.

I managed to load some rounds and made it to the range earlier this week. However, I ran into some issues with my Lab Radar (operator error). I load up the following just to establish a baseline using powders (starting with MAGPRO) I already have open.

At 100Y 2 series shot, .011" off the lands.
- 64 = .413" - I forgot to arm it (operator error). 🤣
- 64.5 = .553", 2954, 2956 - this is the only one I managed to have a velocity reading. However, I cannot arm the LR because of the low battery (internal, not the pack - another operator). 🤬 But the show must go on ...
- 65 = 1.705"
- 65.5 = 1.46"
- 66 = .413"
- 66.5 = 1.502"
- 67 = .414"

At 200Y, 015" off the lands.
- 67.5 = 1.079"
- has potential; no pressure signs thus far.

I did not know when I would be able to have another range time opportunity. Until then, @Petey308 was nice enough to run some QL numbers for me. Thanks, Brother Aaron.

*Start load- 60.9gr at 47,898psi and 2780fps

*Max load- 66.9gr at 63,529psi and 3071fps
"Calibrated" Estimated Nodes:
*Node 7- 61.7gr at 49,744psi and 2819fps
*Node 6.5- 63.9gr at 55,178psi and 2926fps
*Node 6- 65.6gr at 59,768psi and 3008fps

Not too shabby for a baseline.

My pleasure! I'm intrigued by those bullets, and I have a soft spot for quarter-bores, so I'll be really interested to see how this goes for you!

This is my first .25 caliber. I considered the .25-06 AI and the .25 Gibbs before deciding on the .257 WBTY. I am not a fan of proprietary cartridges but I figure I give it a try. 🤣 It is primarily built for the 133 Berger but I will be trying the 117 Cayuga until the Berger is available.

More to follow ...

had both .257wthby and 06.....kept 06 because I had a boat load of brass....sold wthby.....06 does all I need long range Coyotes, deer, antelope...

Tried quite a few powders in my 257 with 120 gr bullets. Rl-33 got me the highest velocity ( 3385 ft/sec--24" barrel) with good accuracy.
How many grains of R33 were you at? I tried my .257 WBY today with the 135's, and hit pressure at 65.5gr H1000. At 65 grains H1000 was at about 3160FPS, was hoping for a tad more speed out of a 27" barrel. I just loaded some up with RL25 going to give that a try. Might try some 33 if I need to!

Started at 75 grs and worked up to 81 grs. Never seen pressure even at 81. I also tried H-1000 with the 120 Speer GS. Worked up to 75 grs for a velocity of 3369 ft/sec, but I found this load a little on the hot side. Retumbo and RL-26 also got me good velocity and accuracy.

Mine loves 72gr of RL22 with 100gr TSX. It groups in one hole at a little over 3600 fps at 3.302 OAL.

I found this to be a standard load for the weatherby, with a slow lot of powder taking 73g. Now chop off the freebore, you get 3850/
Pac Nor has a very short freebore reamer, and their three groove shot is smaller than clover leaf groups within 12 shots fired at 3850, 10T, 26".

These are the powder charges that I was expecting. I was surprised when I hit pressure at 65.5 gr H1000 with the 135gr. I was about .15ish off the lands. I seated them in another .05 to see if it makes any difference. It's not going to make 5+ grains difference though.
