Now re-located in AZ, I'm looking into Elk hunting here and in Colorado.

For Whitetail and Mule deer hunting (Michigan & California) My standard load is 41.0 grs. of 4064 IMR with 165 gr. Hornady or Sierra Boattail Soft Point which runs about 2550 fps. and prints very tight at 100 yds. and has stopped them in their tracks under 200 yds.

I'd very much appreciate suggestions for a good powder and bullet combination for use in my SA NM M-1A in .308 against ELK.

Thanks

Your current load is more than sufficient for elk. Just make sure you use a five round magazine with your M1A when hunting. In most states, five round mags are the max capacity when hunting.

Re: M-1A for Elk Hunt; Your responce

Thanks to Welshdragon, Bud Meadows, and ICANHITHIMMAN for your input and encouragement.

Several other friends have suggested that for Elk that I should use a Barnes or Nosler class quality bullet in 165 gr., and perhaps up the velocity to 2600 fps.

Once again, thanks for the welcome and input.
