Looking for some input....
Currently, I've got a 2.5-10x44 Vortex Viper HS on an ultralight Smokeless MZ build of mine. Not exactly the lightest scope, but the price was right.
Overall, I like it. But the reticle is too fine for hunting IMO, and for some reason the reticle keeps on going fuzzy when I'm trying to line it up on the target.
I'm going to call Vortex and see if they think something is wrong, but meanwhile, thought I would see if anyone has some other options.
Here are my needs:
In generally, I need it to be tough as I'm shooting a 300gr bullet @ 2700 FPS. Will be using it for a wilderness WY elk hunt in October too.
*I'm looking for something preferably in the $500 range, and definitely under $1000.
*30mm tube
*approx 2-10x40 (max range will be 400-500 yards)
*some sort of ranging reticle.
*want to keep it pseudo compact and lightweight since it's going on my "ultralight" build.
I'm thinking maybe a 3-9x40 Leupold VX-R w/the ballistic reticle.
Here's what it's going on....
