Just wondering if anyone out there has a heavy barrel 270-08 AI and what sort of groupings you are getting? I'm thinking of doing a 270 on a blown out Lapua 260 Remington case with a 30 degree shoulder for 500 to 1000 yard varmints, medium size game and targets.

In my opinion, it would be a tremendous waste of money on the reamer and dies, when better results can be achieved with a standard 260.

When you start to factor in bullet selection, it makes a guy scratch his head and wonder....

I already have the dies, I already have the reamer, I've already done the same thing on a lightweight hunting rifle. The 270 caliber is an excellent choice for hunting applications, the situation is changing with high bc bullets. 270 on the same case should give better barrel life than 6.5 and less recoil than 7mm.

I believe Marshal competes with one, winmag had a thread recently on making a 270-308 that had a lot of good stuff in it. Making one is on my list of 270 to make!

I had a look at the thread, it is more about a 270-08. Mine is the 270 Redding, but I would use Lapua 260 cases than what I currently use which is military 308 cases.

sounds sweet! There WILL be a time when the .277 cal has just as efficient bullets as 6.5 or 7mm, and until then we are talking about very little difference in b.c and a little boost in speed over the .260 and better barrel life.
would I do one over a .260 or 7-08?... nope, but there is different strokes for different folks. And that sound like a sweet little stroke!

Ya better hope Winmag doesnt see that, :D .

If you say you dont like win model 70 actions either he will be beating down your door in about an hour. Lol

Nah ill forgive him.:D as if I have any say:D
He an east coast guy so he probably likes the quarter bore.
Different tendencies everywhere you go.

I could care less if he likes Winnie's or not.
I love mine, & that's no secret, but I don't think it's the end all best action ever. It's just my preferred action.

OP,
That'd be a fun round to toy with. I'm an admitted 270 freak, so I'm bias, but I think it would be great for your intended purpose.
If a guy already hand loads, & has the tools & components, I don't see the draw back to playing with wildcats. Kinda like a fun continuous experiment in a way.
Go for it!
