Hi all, I was recently suprised to find the factory data on the 06 with 165 hpbt Sierra to be fairly mediocre in velocity. Can you folks share your load data for this bullet and cartridge and velocity if its known? Thanks!

Im hoping to be close to 2900 fps out of my 22" browning xbolt when all is said and done. This is aa brand new project so I dont have results from my first batch with H4350 in win cases and WLRs yet.

If you want more velocity use RL-17. Alliant's web page says max is 56.5 grains with 165 gr bullet. Velocity is 2874 fps.

Sierra list 56.0gr IMR 4350 as max and as the highest velocity @ 2900fps for that bullet. That seems a little conservative to me but I don't know how the bearing surface compares to the 168 because it list multible powders for the 168 @ 2900 these are all out of a 26in barrel. I have good luck with 4064 in that bullet weight range.. Hodgdon list 60.0gr compressed @ 2934fps out of a 24in. With imr 4350 as max start load is 56.0gr. This is for the 165gr. Spbt which sierra list with the hpbt and same charge weights..

Thanks for the info, Ive not yet tried any of the reloader powders, sounds promising!
And yeah its the 26" barrel that had me bummed about the Sierra manual data. That would put my rifle about 2750 or somewhere and is not nearly what I have in mind. The Hodgdon info sounds better. Its starting load with H4350 is above Sierras max or nearly so: that lead to this post. To be safe I started at mid level Sierra data and in .5 increments till I reach pressure signs. I always work up slow. The chrony will settle the rest.

I just picked up some 4064 but have not tried it yet. Does the sierra data seem low for that powder as well??
Ive got a load with the 165 Hornady Interlock at 2870 with H Superformance, (I havent chronied my H4350 load yet) and am hoping to equal or surpass it with this Sierra bullet.

4064 data seems a little conservative. But your rifle will tell you what it likes. I have ran into pressure with the 4064 very quickly it doesn't seem as forgiving as the 4350..

Interesting that Sierra lists 2900 fps with 56 grains of IMR 4350 yet Hodgdon's website says 56.6 yields just 2770 fps. Hodgdon used a Hornady bullet. You never know till you shoot what you might get.

A friend swears by 57 or 58 gr of IMR 4350 and the 165 gr sierra as his go to load for the 30-06. He has helped many get their 06s to shoot with this load. I tried it with one I had and it worked too.

The fastest load i could find in a manual was 63 of re-22 , 165 balistic tip, 3002 fps. nosler manual. there are manuals that have 59 of I 4350 w/165. i do not need that much velocity. my rem 700 mtn rifle is about 6.2 pounds a little more with a 2.5-8 on it.

Ok so I finally got out to do some shooting and with a range from 52.5-55 grains of H4350 ext with Win cases and WLR primers my top velocity was 2888 at 55 grains but looks to be a lil warm for my rifle. The next highest was 2776 at 54.5 but 1 showed mild pressure signs i thought maybe was a fluke. But nope, next load had more of same.

Soo I think Im going to switch powders and start over. I think Sierras rifle was just like mine Pressure wise.. Theres no way I could get to 58-59 grains safely. These loads shot well for a first effort but am looking for say 2870 at least, hopefully 2900 average Safely to be where Im hopin, trajectory wise, I know the critters cant tell.

I use 50.5 of varget and a 168 berger, 210M, Lapua brass. .030 off. this load could work for any/ many 165-168 , lapua 167 , and the sierra 165. i believe with I4350 you could go a little higher than the H.

I have a Hart 26" barrel. I use 57.5 of H4350, Berger 168 Hybrids, Norma brass, Federal primers. Just touching the lands, it shoots 2905 vel. No pressure signs and 1" groups @ 200 yds.

W.B. I've got a Browning A Bolt 22 inch barrel. Using 56.5 grs. R17 powder, Federal case, CCI BR2 primers and 165gr. Sierra Game King Bullets I'm getting about 2890 fps. and 1/4 inch groups @ 100 yards. Start low and work your way up to this load as 56.5 grs. of R17 is MAX. gun)

I like one shot kills where possible and prefer to do all my hunting before I shoot .
