Let’s take a vote… bullet choice

Taking a vote. October mule deer hunt at 7k-10k elevation. Rifle is a 6.5prc. The options are 124 HH at 3330fps shooting 1/4 moa or the 156 Berger EOL shooting 2835, also 1/4 moa. Longest range I’ll take a shot if conditions are perfect is 500 yards.

Only downside with the bergers is I’d have to single feed them. Hammers fit in the mag

For a max of only 500 on mulies, and higher elevation, I would pick the hammer load, and dial for max point blank range while hunting. Unless wind is extreme, inside 500 the 124 will do great.

You made the answer easy with post #2. Hammer’s. Nothing wrong with using a single shot but who wants to carry a bolt action single shot hunting? Not me

If your doing any dialing for distance you could
Dual load your two choices. Load the Hammers in the mag & hand feed the Berger’s for some longer
Distance shots from a 2 round holder mounted on the side of your stock.
Set up your dialing for the Berger’s
And adjust your loads so the numbers are close
For drops. It can work quite well when practiced.
This could also gain you some additional yardage once you practice and are comfortable doing so.

No way would I go hunting unless I could run from the mag. So regardless of what i think of the bullets, there’s your answer. Run what you can run from the mag.

Set the berger to mag length. Not sure what’s happening there. I run mine at 2.950 coal and get excellent results. Having said that I’d likely choose the 124 simply for flat shooting etc any way. If it was an elk I might head to the 156 but for deer meh.
