V.H. that's about the same thing I do. I have a thermometer I insert into the barrel from the chamber end. If it displays an arbitrary 85 degrees or less I fire again.

I use ignorant prejudice because I have no data to support this tactic.

I bought one of those infrared temperature gauges but never actually used it on the rifle. Has anyone been using one, and what temperatures are you trying to maintain?

In my experience, if you shoot a good enough 5 shot group at 10mins /sht, all other timing will be even better.

Should I or not allow barrel cooling after each shoot?

Waiting almost guarantee's conditions will change skewing results, with thinner barrels just use less shots.
With a few rounds to foul or warm the barrel, I shoot with a smooth steady pace during half way decent conditions. If it's a bad day j just don't test simply because we need good data to make good decisions.
Here's one from today shot at 1000 yards..How many guys would be comfortable with what you see ?
