Been 10 years sense I have been elk hunting. We use to hunt just north of I-70 around the Flat tops area. Thinking about taking my 17 year old son this fall. I was wondering if this area is still good hunting. Or if there might be some place better. We will be rifle hunting.

Archery guys still do pretty good in area. Most I know have taken llamas or horses as far back as possible. Brother inlaw hunted two or three years in a row, usually 75% for the group on tagging 270 -290 class bulls

Nope, no elk in Colorado, they all went to WY. Please contact WY DOW for tag information.

The flattop herd is still the largest elk herd in the U.S. The hardest part is picking the right elevation to match the weather conditions. It can get a little crazy close to the road but a little walking thins out most of the crowd.
