Elk in the flat tops

TRappers lake ,or marvin trail area .where are the elk now .are they still on top or started down.?

Years ago my dad and I rented some horses at trappers lake and rode into the wilderness the day before elk season. We never got in far enough to get to where the elk were. We had heard that the elk were about 8 miles in. We had about 1 foot of snow on the ground and it was first season. We ended up hunting elsewhere. I doubt if things have changed much.
