Is it me or the brass?

Most folks engaging in this type of work have a swager, as well. I've got the RCBS bench-mounted swager, as well as the crimp cutter. Together, they work great. Swage first, then cut the excess out/off.
 
On mine sometimes I have to roll the brass left or right to find the "sweet" spot for the primer to seat. But maybe you just got a bad batch.
