Hydrostatic shock?

There is definitely something to this. On the same Africa trip I used the 215 Berger Hybrid on sable and a wildebeest. Bullet went in a few inches and exploded like a grenade creating both massive hydrostatic shock from all the energy and permanent wound channeling in multiple directions. Starting to become more of a believer in pass through being over rated.
I like a good blood trail just in case I have to track my game. So a pass through is nice, but so is a short trail or DRT. Nice harvest! Congrats.

What post? To some here it does. To others it doesn't.

It is my opinion through vast research, unbiased studies, a 540 page physics paper and the associated laws, and personal observation that energy is a critical part of the process, aids in killing and sometimes is fully credited for killing. Furthermore without it, a rifle bullet is an inert object that performs more like a rock.
 
What is funny is that the biggest part off the permanent wound cavity is created by hydrostatic shock effects?

At 9 years old my father had me shoot steers in the forehead with a 22 and they dropped. Shoot them in the caboose and they live for days.

I only endorse clean and quick harvest.

Stamamia, hitching post and dirt water grille in AJ are the best places south of Montana.

Yeah the direct hit to the central nervous system defiantly eliminates the need for this tread.

I agree it's simple physics, you need kinetic energy for any of this. It's how that energy is expressed or transferred that is important. Energy is even there in the 22LR shooting cows in the head. You still need enough energy to make it through the skull and damage the medulla or CNS. I don't know why this is so controversial.
 
Let us know the next time you have that deer or elk in headgate so you can shoot it in the head with a 22!
I will send you a picture, but you don't have to have them in a head gate if your a good hunter and can shoot! It make no difference if it is a FMJ or expanding bullet if it is directly into the CNS. Just enough energy to get there.
 
When I was 14-15 years old, I shot a buck probably 160-170lbs behind the shoulder, all ribs and lungs. No shoulder, no spine, no guts.

It was my first real rifle, 25/06 Rem with a 100gr old style ballistic tips at what I can promise was maximum knowing my Dad.

The deer was standing with his head up at the shot, collapsed instantly and never kicked or moved.

Was it energy transfer? Hydrostatic shock? Withcraft?
All I can say for sure, it wasn't oxygen depleted blood, a loss of blood, or dain bramage.
Not all of them do the same of course…but!

I've seen many do it since then, mostly doe because I shoot about 5x as many as bucks.
I'm no depredation hunter but 15-25 per year over about 30 years does give something to reflect on.
