So Grandpa finally drew a good tag this year year with 24 points. I'm familiar with the area and have been scouting and watching this bull a fair bit. I don't want to make this all about inches but he's been accumulating points for this hunt since before I was even born and I want him to come away from this hunt with a solid trophy and an impressive number to tell people. I know this is a really solid bull but I'm having a hell of a time putting a number to him.

I look at him and think man he's got it all but I really don't trust myself to be objective about it. He appears to be a little lacking in beam length but at the same time he's a big bodied bull and maybe that's skewing my perception of him. I need some opinions on what this bull might tape out at. I know it's hard to say but that's why I gotta ask.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but from the profile view, his back end looks weak in addition to short main beams.

After 24 years of applying, I understand wanting to tag a monster scoring xxx", but this can put pressure on the hunt and lead to disappointment. At the end of the day, I'd go for whatever bull gets his heart pumping.

The trophies quality lies with the man that hold the tag. He looks very nice and if your Grandpa likes him then score doesn't matter. The quality of the hunt and spending time with his grandson making that hunt of a lifetime come true will probably be more of a trophy for him that the elk itself. I know when I get the opportunity to hunt with my grandson the horns always become a little less important.

He has some mass....but overall lenght is lacking....has good sweeping top..but looks to lack good sword(4th) points.....
If he's a youngun' next year he may be a true monster.......
BUT....
Gramps shouldn't kick a dead horse....he should kick that dead bull.....
Scores not everything....memories are....

I'm no expert, but I agree with most of the comments. Beam length is a little short. Backs are a little weak. He has good mass and very nice fronts. He might be a good one to "ground check". See what grandpa thinks. I'd predict 325-350......

Impossible to tell. What are your grandpas expectations? Is he looking for a certain size that corresponds to inches? He's a nice bull, but we need more info. If he's looking for a mature bull then it's a shooter. If it's 380 or tag soup, keep looking.
