Hi I have been trying to figure out some decent velocity and accurate loads for my Reminton 700 with a 24" barrel with a 1:10" twist. I have tried using Amax 168 grain hornady A Max's ,165grain Nosler Ballistic tips barnes 165 grain ttsx with coals set at 3.450'3.550 and 3.560 "using imr ssc 7828 so far,I was just wondering if anyone else had worked up any good loads in this bullets weight and barrel length .BTW iam using a Lee collet sized woth Lee factory crimper once brass need to be resized I use a I use a RCBS full sizing die.So iam open to suggestions and iam wanting to satyr with this weight for the tiny desert mulies and even smaller coues whitetails ,if i ever go elk I would go up to 1i0-190 s.thank you all in advance

I shot Rem Classic 300Wby and it was released 1989 and Rem made brass for that. I loaded IMR-7828,180gr bullet,215 primer, OAL 3.560". Wby freebore for 300 is .361".

I used rifle couple years as back elk rifle then new barrel for 30-338mag and couple years ago got Rock Creek barrel had it chamber for 270Wby and I'm loading 150gr ABLR with IMR-7828ssc.

Beside 270Wby had 300Wby and 257 Wby build. I've never had a problem getting IMR-7828 or IMR-7828ssc to shoot in those rifles and I'm not trying to promote that powder, you get what you get.

I don't crimp. I did have rifle bedded and it did shoot pretty good. Myself if you could get it I'd try IMR-4955 for the 165gr.

Tom Jones that is the exact rifle I have i bought in 1989 as well lol I have hade Remington 180 colorlokts shoot very well and didn't destroy very much meat shot great groups ,biggest problem is I can't find the Remy ammo any longer locally so iam loading for it now and would prefer something a little lighter . And I haven't heard of 4895 I'll look into to that as well

I never shot the lighter bullets in that rifle as it shot so good with 180's and I kind of figured that was rifle you had. Wby loaded some Hornady SP bullet in their factory ammo for 300 Wby might want to try 165gr and use hornady loading data.

Well good luck

Thanks Tom H you just answered a question I have been struggling with as far as col and on that Remington amd Remmys customer service was of no use .Thanks

Coues wt huh? LR is the norm for those secretive bucks which I also hunt. I prefer to use a high BC bullet to deal with the one issue I can't control, wind drift. If I had your rifle I would be shooting the Berger 215 match hybrid with H1000. You should be able to get 2900 fps maybe more.

I just crunched some numbers for the 168 A-max (which is the highest BC bullet of the ones you have been trying) vs the 215 Berger at 4000 ft elevation common for our coues wt here in Az.

I used 3200 for the 168 A-max and 2900 for the 215 Berger hybrid

At 500 yd the wind drifts:
168 A-max 11.7 inches
215 Berger 8.7 inches

It is your choice. If you choose the 215 you can use it for any animal in N. America with confidence.
Not sure if you ever read Broz thread on the 215's performance shot from a 300 win mag. This thread alone may make you switch. Thread gets interesting from this point on. Many kills documented (IIRC 23 one shot kills on elk, deer and antelope)

Forget the crimping it isn't needed and may detract from your accuracy. If you think you should crimp why? Is it because you think that cartridges in the magazine will suffer bullet movement due to recoil? Try a test, place a loaded uncrimped round in magazine and shoot 3-4 rounds over it. See if the bullet moves. I doubt it will

For rifle that almost 30yr old you had good luck with it. I still have Rem 180gr core-lokt. Well good luck and Merry Christmas

Yeah I live on the East side of the Sieritas in the foot hills of 36A if you hint out here you've probably drove by my house trying to get out to your hinting grounds

Yeah I live on the east side of the Sierita mountains foothills in unit 36a if you've hunted out here off indian kitchen rd you've probably passed my property

I know exactly where the actual Indian Kitchen is located. I have never seen a site like it with all its deep grinding holes under that huge overhang.

I usually hunt unit 33 for deer and javelina. I live near Ina and Oracle in Tucson. I have never hunted 36A except for some duck tank jumping.

If you still want to shoot a 168 weight bullet I'd suggest the Berger 168 target hybrid. It has a higher BC that the other bullets you have been trying with a G1 of .515 G7 .264. The advantage besides the higher BC is that the Hybrid bullets will respond to pretty much any distance from the lands. With the huge jump to the lands in your Weatherby it might help you get the accuracy you desire. Simply seat the bullet to fit and feed from the magazine and work up a load. To date I have not had to ever alter a hybrid's seating depth and I worked up many loads for my friend's rifles and my own.

300 WEATHERBY ACCURACY ANSWERED :1st of all I want to thank everybody for helping with their input; long story short,my Vortex Diamond back hp is at fault i mounted my Voryex on my son's 300 rum and his riffle was shooting like an uncooked shotgun at 25yards even failing to hit paper all elevation and windage adjustments were all over and even once on paper I told him to fire a group of 3 only one hit paper new checked all attach points for his scope and mounting screws for riffle everything was solid .
So after he ran 40 rounds and nothing worked I went to my 300 Weatherby with a new Minox zx5i5x25x56mm and all 3 rounds were in one ragged hole .My best ever if I could to figure out how to post picture from my phone,I would it was that good . WHEN I HAD THE Vortex on my Weatherby same thing I thought my barrel was shot out our my loads were faulty.Iam really disappointed in Vortex.
