Working on loads for my 300 win mag, have a bunch of 165 grain tsx and looking for some decent loads for it?? I have a bunch of REL 26, it claims good velocity but what is everybody else using.

My dads load I worked up for him is 79 grains or IMR 7977 using the Barnes 168 tsx bt with Winchester WLRM primers and Hornady brass. Original development was with RP brass. His rifle is a Browning A bolt. Not super fast but his barrel is getting up there in life too. Running just under 3000 fps on our chrono.

If you have the powder it would be worth a try because I'm pretty sure your rifle will shoot faster. His is getting up there on barrel life and this load might just be limping it along a few years before he needs a new one.

Alliants' powder page has some Data for RL26 but it is for the 180 TSX and the MAX load velocity is 3099 fps from a 24 inch barrel, not all that fast compared to the other bullets listed..

220 gr SMK 2826 fps
200 gr SMK 2991 fps
200 Speer SP 2931 fps
200 ELD-X 2932 fps
180 Partition 3130 fps
168 Speer BTHP 3260 fps
165 SBT 3292 fps

I would Email them or call and talk to a tech, they may have data for the 165 TSX.

I personally would stick with 22/23 for the 165s and 150s, and 25/26 for the 180s and above.
I run 76gr rl22 and a wlrm with 168 TTSXs in my 300 WM, runs around 3180...

Issue, up here in the cold north RL-22 is temperature sensitive, this does become an issue as I develop loads in the summer (+24 C ) and shoot in the fall down to (-36C ) My standby load was 75.0 grs RL-22 behind a 180 gr Accubond. The question of the day should be is RL-23 better for temperature sensitivity?? I love working with RL-22. gun)

Thanks I tried that but no load data from Alliant.

I have tooooo much RL 26 to not give it a go lol tried 78.5 grs RL 26 for a couple of rounds until I have a technical issue. LOL stock broke, testing on hold until I decide what to replace it with.

Double Dropper,

Have you tried contacting Barnes?

They might have worked up some loads for a future manual or just because it is a new powder, worth a shot, and can't do any harm.

Follow up with a Call if you haven't done so already, my Email went into their spam filter fairly recently and last I called, October 25..I think... they had quite a few people off, hunting/vacation and they had only 1 person in the tech division.

You could work up a load using a Chrono and the 180 Data(reducing 10%) and keeping an eye out for pressure signs, but that is up to you of course...

Good luck and keep us updated.
