Hi I have been trying to figure out some decent velocity and accurate loads for my Reminton 700 with a 24" barrel with a 1:10" twist. I have tried using Amax 168 grain hornady A Max's ,165grain Nosler Ballistic tips barnes 165 grain ttsx with coals set at 3.450'3.550 and 3.560 "using imr ssc 7828 so far,I was just wondering if anyone else had worked up any good loads in this bullets weight and barrel length .BTW iam using a Lee collet sized woth Lee factory crimper once brass need to be resized I use a I use a RCBS full sizing die.So iam open to suggestions and iam wanting to satyr with this weight for the tiny desert mulies and even smaller coues whitetails ,if i ever go elk I would go up to 1i0-190 s.thank you all in advance

almost every 300 weatherby that i have worked up loads for was best with h4831. never got best performance with a 7828 powder in the 300 wtby. i've had good results with speer 165 spitzer flat base and fed 215 primers. hope this helps. let us know you results.

Thank you Philip,i have heard flat based bullets are more accurate that boat tails or bullets with less bearing surface,is their a reason for that?I think I'll be trying h4831 .Is their a major difference between imr and h 4831?

my guess is it has to do with the long free bore and the longer bearing surface of the spitzers vs. the boatails. i worked up loads for a couple early ruger 77's with the tang safety. the bullet had a long jump and both shot very well with flat base spitzers and my experience has been the same with the weatherbys. i would think the solid copper bullets would shoot well because of this but i haven't much experience with the solids.

I see yes I have one of the early ruger m-77with tang saftey in .270 Win I didn't know that either about the ruger Anyhow what I didn't like about the Barnes was i had to shoot reduces loads
and I got high pressure early so I stayed away after the 1st box .thanks for all your guys input iam no longer on the fence about trying 4831 il ll be trying some out.

To answer your powder question, H4831 and H4831SC is Hodgdon's Extreme powder which is quite temperature stable whereas IMR4831 is not. If you are leaning toward a flat base bullet, perhaps include the tried and true Nosler Partition. You don't need to crimp if you've trimmed and sized properly. I am working on a load for a WBY Mark V 26" now, but am going much heavier with a bullet. Good luck

also imr and h have different burn rates and characteristics . individual rifles will prefer one to the other accuracy wise alot of times. being less temp sensitive is a real asset.

Haha k you all for the very informative input, now here is a big challenge ,my youngest son bought his 1st riffle a winchester classic stainless steel 26 " barrel in .300 RUM so he's rubbing it in how he's has the ultimate .30 mag any one have some ideas that I can get close to his in velicity.
