Having hell with my new 300win

Long story/journey short version.
Was given a Rem700 300wm stainless with the grey laminated stock. Tried every quality factory ammo for 2 years, my shot gun gave tighter groups! Sat in the safe a few years then a friend taught me how to reload. 7828 with Berger 210's and got consistent 1" to 1.5", then tried Berger's 215's, AND done!!!
I experienced the same
I built a 300WM with the intention of shooting 190gr ABLR's.
It wouldn't shoot them. I also couldn't get acceptable accuracy from 200 or 212gr ELD-X's. I tried a few other bullets and some factory ammo. Nothing shot under 1.5 moa
It was suggested I try the 215's and the rest was history. Average group size is .449"

Let someone else shoot it. The gun might not fit you well. Parallax could be off with every shot, etc.. plus you're probably frustrated with it. I know when I get that way the gun gets put away for a while. Which usually ends up with me buying another so I can make sure I'm not doing everything wrong. Also wouldn't hurt to keep putting rounds through it until it speeds up, making sure it's good and broken in, it's 300WM you have quite a bit of barrel life.

Dimensionally what does your ammo look like?

What is your case neck runout? What is your bullet runout near the tip?

How does your CBTD measurement compare fired vs sized?

What's your powder charge with the 4831? I've had two newer mfg 700s in 300 wm and they were super easy to get loads worked up for , they shot pretty much everything well . Maybe I can give you some stuff from my notes.

My buddy said his .300 RUM wouldn't group. It's a Remington 700 Sendero. So we went to the range and sure as heck, 2.5+" for 5 shots at 100 yards.

I asked him to let another "shooter" I know shoot the gun. That dude shot 4 rounds...clover leaf!

My buddy felt worse. I felt better....I made the ammo. In my 300 RUM it's super tight.

Let someone else shoot your best load. Eliminate the shooter as possible influence.
Possible. I use to load a dummy round in for individuals and watch their reaction as they squeezed of the shot. They found a lot of errors that they did behind the gun. Have someone else load the rifle so you don't know which is live or the dummy round.

Had a 700P that I could get to group some years ago… acquired a proof barrel after much effort and finally giving up… when my smith took off the factory barrel there was rust on half the shoulder… the action was out of square to the point that only half the shoulder barrel shoulder was in contact… if you are going to keep the gun forever have the action worked and put a quality barrel on it… if you don't love it send it down the road and put the money into a components for a custom build

If the barrel is floated from the lug to the muzzle cut some plastic strips 1.5" wide from a milk jug. Place them in the bbl/stock channel several inches back from the forearm tip. Effectively creating forearm pressure on the barrel. I'll hang a weight from the forearm stud with the stock clamped in a vice at The magazine. I'll use 6lbs of weight. Place the shims in the channel and shoot a group. If the that improves the issue you need forearm pressure to make that bbl shoot. If it works bed in the pressure point with your favorite bedding compound.
The next solution is adding a barrel tuner.

I've tried 165nbt, 168ablr, 180sgk, 180fed fusion, 155 (I think they are nos match they shot best). Have tried doing 3 shot ladder/ group test with 7828, 4831, 4451, re26.
I just floated the stock and changed out the new Burris veracity to make sure it's not the scope.
Everything is tourqed to spec.

anyone have recommendations for bullet to try. I'm going to run hammer bullets but want to try to get it to group before I start sending 1.25 pills down the pipe. Best group is 155 like 1.5moa. the rest is 2.5-3moa
Maybe try a Sierra or other 200 grain bullet or any of the ELD bullets in that 200-220 range. I have had a few rifles that would only shoot heavier bullets for the caliber and it looks like you have only gone up to 180. I have always had luck with heavier bullets in my rifles as a general statement, specifically when my muzzle velocity has been around 2,800 FPS. I know magnums are supposed to like full loads going fast but I have had many rifle's groups tighten up at that magic 2,800 FPS number for some reason. I specifically had a Remington in 264 Winchester that would only shoot 160 grain round nose Hornady bullets. I tried every 140 on the planet and at best was getting 1.5" - 2" groups. It shot those 160 grain RN in the same hole or a clover leaf regardless of powder type or load. So sometimes a change in bullet weight can make all the difference. It's worth trying at this point I think. Good luck.

Shoot Bergers to find accuracy capability. Match quality and not expensive. Try Barnes 168 and 180 TTSX for hunting loads.

Try 150 gr Interlock with RL16 or a 190 smk with RL22 or a 208 eldm/200 LRX with H1000 or a 168 amax with H4831SC. All shoot sub half from my 700 LR. Pic's are the 150/RL16 combo, a 168 gr amax with H4831SC and a 200 gr LRX with H1000. All from my 700 LR
