Hammer 22 Creedmoor Testing

Oh ok. Even still, it's pretty even at those velocities. The 80 grain .224 bullet doesn't exceed it by 300ft lbs at 700 yards.

Correct, but you chose a higher capacity cartridge to push a 140 faster than a Creedmoor can. He's showing that with a similar case, the 80 gn outperforms the 140 at 600.

I'm not sure what computer you are using. But my AB shows a 80 eld at 3450 which is smoking for an 80. Is 1376 at 600

6.5 creed with 140 at 2800 is 1636.

I love my 22 creeds and for coyotes it flat out stomps them. I shot my antelope this year with one at 510.

But in a creedmore to creedmore test the 6.5 wins in the ft/lbs of energy department … not sure what the argument is…. It is more than capable. But it doesn't "outdo" anything of similar case capacity with a heavier bullet that's just not how things work.

If we compare a 220 redline or 22 Prc to a 6.5 Prc or 6.5 saum with 156. It still loses….

Running the numbers, an 80gr VLD @ 3500 has about 100 ft lbs less energy than a 140gr VLD @ 2600. The wind drift is only about 1/4 MOA different with the edge going to the 22cal. This example is giving the 22 Creedmoor the benefit of the doubt running an 80gr @ 3500 and it's giving the 6.5 Creedmoor with a 140 the short end of the stick. In reality, 2750-2850 with a 140 is much more realistic in a 6.5 Creedmoor. So I don't see the 22cal outperforming a 6.5 of the same case capacity in the energy department. Run the numbers for yourself.

This is the only point I was making. His claim of the 22 CM w/80 VLDs having 300 ft lbs more energy at 600 yards than the 6.5 CM with 140 ELDs is pretty inaccurate. I enjoyed his thread but that part was inaccurate. Yes for an 80 grain .224 bullet, the CM is impressive. Just not a better deer cartridge/bullet based on the real ballistics.

I'm with you on those numbers, I was just pointing out that picking a different cartridge doesn't work. You can't say the answer doesn't compute if you change the problem as well.
Oh I agree.

He was just stating that the OPs claim of an 80 hitting 300 lbs harder at 600 yards with the listed velocities was just false…. You seemed to argue that fact.

Changing cartridges I agree changes things. And means nothing to a comparison…

He would have to run an 80 north of 4K to outdo a 6.5 creed as he states.

Precisely correct.
