Had a good week in the shop. Here are some rigs just for your viewing pleasure!!!
This one is a 338 Allen Xpress on my Xtreme Heavy Sporter designs with the following specs:
BAT HRPIC receiver
Lilja 26" 1-10 twist fluted barrel
APS Slim PK muzzle brake
Jewell trigger
Seekins DM system
McMillan A-5 tactical stock
Leuy PRW rings
Mk4 4.5-15x50 TMR
We were shooting this rifle with the 300 gr SMK and 100 gr Retumbo with an average velocity of 2900 fps. Not to bad from a short 26" barrel length. We were making gravel on 1/2 moa sized target rocks with boring consistancy. A real fun rifle to shoot. Very low recoil for this power range and great consistancy.
This ones a bit different. One of my Xtreme XPs chambered in 6.5mm WSM. The customer had a supply of 95 gr Ballistic tips he wanted to use for an up coming predator hunt so I developed a load which get us 3300 fps with Retumbo. We have not range tested this one yet, the customer is coming up next week for some longer range shooting. Recoil is about like a 221 Fireball but with no muzzle jump at all. The PK muzzle brake works great on rifles and works even better on the big handguns.
This one has a trued XP receiver, Lilja 15" fluted barrel, Small 3 port PK brake and McMillan stock and topped with Burris Signature rings and Burris 3-12 Ballistic Plex scope.
This one was one of my favorite of the week. An Xtreme Heavy Sporter in 270 AM.
Borden Timberline Magnum Single shot receiver
Lilja #8, 30" 1-8 twist barrel with heavy fluted
Slim PK muzzle brake
I believe Russo laminated stock(customer supplied)
Jewell trigger
I tested this rifle with fireforming loads using WC872, necked down virgin 7mm RUM brass and the 169.5 gr ULD RBBT. Consistancy always puts a smile on my face to see how this chambering shoots with fireforming loads. Velocity was around 3050 fps which makes it plenty potent for field use. Recoil, well, this is no recoil, about like a 22-250 in a sporter weight rifle.
This one was probably my favorite lightweight big game rifle of the week. Its one of my Xtreme Sporters in 338 Lapua.
Nesika Bay Model M Hunter
#5, 25" Hart, fluted barrel, 1-10 twist
Small 3 port PK brake
Jewell trigger
HS Precision DM system
McMillan Edge BDL stock
We tested with the 300 gr SMK in this lighter rifle(7 1/4 lb rifle weight) and while there was some recoil, I could easily spot my own shots at ranges past 400 yards. You do not expect a rifle of this weight to shoot as well as a 12 lb rifle but it was not far behind. Easy to shoot, very easy to pack and lots of power at long range.
Last one is a local customer and friend who had me put together a 338 Edge on a Rem 700 he already owned. Nice rig, #5 fluted Lilja, Small 3 port PK brake. We took it out and did some work on his drop chart using the Zeiss Rapid Z-1000 reticle. I was pretty impressed with this reticle. Just wish they offered it in a more affordable FFP model.
Zeroed at 250 yards on the main crosshair he had plenty of reach to go out to 1100 yards. On the last drop test, he put two rounds under 4" on the rock to the left of him in the picture. This was at just a hair over 1100 yards. Pretty good for a stock weight Rem 700 LSS.
He did encounter a problem with the Burris base and rings so the scope now wears a NF 20 moa tactical rail with Leuy PRW rings so that problem should be gone for good.
Was a good week, onto next week!!!! Just figured you guys might want to see some different rigs.
