Florida, Georgia Hog Hunting?

I think you hit the nail on the head. As soon as people started thinking they were worth big money it became hard to hunt.
The lack of season is exactly why I love to hunt them. Between our terrain, winters, and all the smaller tracks of land here in Michigan I'm not sure we will ever have a hog issue. Everyone has smaller pieces of land and they all get hunted for deer so everyone would get rid of the hogs quick. Especially opening day of deer when everyone is in the woods.

Two years a go I went to Fox Brown Outfitters in Indian Town FL
Got 220 lb hog at $250 yes the price is a bit high but it was a go day and got to spend all day in the woods
Also went back for quail and water buck
Place is nice people are friendly and work hard to get you a good shot
Will go back in November or December to get another meat deer
Should anyone be in West Palm Beach area I am looking for hunting partner preferably someone that is local to teach me FL hunting

Just had a buddy move to west palm area from mi. He is a wounded vet and just did a hunt with him at legends ranch. He's keeping an eye out for me for some land to either purchase or lease for hog hunting.
I've been trying to find a spot for a while. I have one guy in LA that said he had a spot but before I buy all the stands and feeders I'd like to know it has a lot of hogs.

The problem is that hunters are slobs. I have a farm in Georgia. I would love to have people come and shoot hogs and coyotes. However, I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER let anyone that I do not know personally EVER EVER EVER come hunt on my property ever again.

I won't go into details, but it has not been worth the headache. I have been in and out of court for years with some of these a-holes. I just fenced the entire property, posted no trespassing signs on about every other post, and bought some boerboels.

I used to let people hunt for free. Now I would shoot trespassers. People ruin everything.

My guess is that when your price is to low, you get the same quality people that I used to get for free. They have to make the price high enough to make sure that they get the class of people that they are looking for.

I bet you are correct. We have all known the hunters you speak of. I have a feeling they are the same type we get here in Michigan. Talk about it all year like it's a passion for them but they go out the night before to put up stands even if it's right next to someone and hunt for a few sits and call it a day.
I thought by buying proper insurance to help out farmers minds at ease would help but to no avail.

Yes i do agree that these people who dont care and i live in manate county just south of tampa. You cant even find land to lease any more because of people not respecting the land.so the owners just let the hogs tear up the property. Thats better than letting a so called hunt club come in and destroy there land. And we have a reall problem with poachers here allso. That does not help matters either.

I will just give a few examples...

I have found empty beer cans, liquor bottles, and drug paraphernalia.

I have found trash like someone just cleaned out their truck in the woods, including fast food trash, empty cigarette packs and butts like they dumped them out of the ash tray, and even pornographic magazines.

I have found people living on the property.

I have found more ruts and tore up spots than I can count.

I have found one of my pecan trees shot up so bad it looked like that scene in Predator where they mini gunned the jungle.

I had a heifer calf with a bullet hole through her dewlap. She healed up fine, but three inches higher and she would have been buzzard fodder.

I have found poison put out for coyotes like I don't have dogs on this property.

I had a guy leave a gate open and a donkey got out in the highway and got hit by someone's car. Guess who had to pay the bill on that one?

Like I said, never EVER EVER EVER again.

The same goes for people that want to fish in your pond. I have a catfish pond that I stock every year. I have let a few people fish there over the years and its never good. They always come and slaughter the fish and take a whole cooler full home with them like I don't have to pay to put them in the pond and pay to feed them.

No one will ever respect your property the way that you respect your property. That is the truth.

I spent a lot of years living in the north. I understand that things are different there, but I grew up raising cattle, hunting, and fishing. I popped my first pinch of skoal when I was nine. I listened to both kinds of music...country AND western LOL. However, it wasn't until I moved to the south that I learned that people give ZERO effs about their hunting dogs. I ran rabbits with beagles for years. We ALWAYS picked up our dogs. Good dog...picked him up. Bad dog...picked him up. People in Georgia seem like they just turn their old dogs out at the end of hunting season and just say screw it, I'm not feeding them all summer. If you don't want the dog give him to someone or put a bullet in him. I can't even begin to put a number on the wild dogs that I have shot for running my animals.

The only way I would ever do it is if a professional guide stayed with the hunters the entire time and he would sign an agreement to be financially responsible for anything that happened.

Sorry for the rant.

I understand your position entirely. As a school teacher I had once said, "I give you guys an inch and you take a yard". I have always been taught to respect other people and their property and taught my kids the same. I'd like to think there are 10 respectful hunters for every disrespectful one. That said, hog hunting is on my bucket list but it seems that using guides and outfitters is about the only way to go. I cannot see paying someone for me to rid them of THEIR problem. Isn't it possible to find areas to hunt these things without paying exorbitant prices? I live in Pennsylvania so I don't know anyone in a southern state or Texas who has connections. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well i wish i could help but things being that bad here in manatee county with what we are talking about and the land owners are fed up with every thing mainly the poaching that where i hunt i cant bring any body with me or i loose my lease.we have some huge hogs here in manatee sarasota countys.

I've hunted with Backwater Boars in Georgia three times, and I'll probably go again if the crew I go with wants to. We all got pigs on all three trips (6-8) hunters. The accommodations are rustic, but the owner and his son are great, and they work hard for you. If anyone wants more info, send me a pm.

It's not any better up here in Michigan. I actually think for every one hunter your have 20 bad ones. I've been very lucky to be one of the few that goes above and beyond when I get permission. I have one piece of land I hunt and take very good care of and ended up being the only one allowed after everyone else messed up and the lady is about as easy going as you get. Another one is a bit different. Big family farm and they have about 20 people up for opening week of deer. So I avoid that like calrazy but to be able to hunt I have helped build and put up stands, feeders when legal and all kinds of work so many of the kids can show up opening morning and get lucky. They want does off the land and I get to go after the first week and shoot as many as I want so it works out. I'm always shocked at how people can say and promise one thing to your face only to not do any of it. People don't care about there word anymore.

Michigan is the worst as far as respect goes. No locals ventures out of the house the first week of rifle season, heck they close the schools on opening day! Sorry OP. Try Backwater Boars in GA. Another option is the public land hunts in FL. Not too hard to apply just takes adventurous spirit! Your first year may be a bust but you'll get it down for the next year.

I've hunted at Bear Bridge Outfitters in Fla., you are guaranteed a hog, but prices have gone up. Worth a look.
I now belong to a private hunt club ( 3rd year ) just north of Perry, Fla., Econfina Sloughs Hunt Club, and I think we have a couple/few openings left for this year. We lease over 24,000 acres from a timber company, and have just over 100 members. Everything behind locked gates. Never seen over half in the club at once. No alcohol, spouse and family oriented. TONS, literally, of hogs; hunted year-round. Good deer population, QDM Rules, LOTS of Turkey, Eastern only, no Osceola's. Still hunt/stands only. Everyone gets 3 spots/stand locations ( you pick ) each with a 500 yd. radius NOBODY is allowed to violate. ( spots registered with Leadership via GPS, to prevent overlap. ) Check out our website for more info/rules. Billy Russ is the membership contact. ZERO slob hunters tolerated, strict but just common sense rules. Everyone background checked. AWESOME members, including law enforcement and clergy. ( All the bases covered, LOL!) GFC Wildlife Officers patrol on frequent basis. Trespassing and poaching HARSHLY dealt with. Currently $1,400 a year. Spouse and minor kids included. Primitive camping ( no water/elect.) on site, inexpensive motels 12 miles in town ( Perry ).
