Im currently trying to find a load for my 30-06 using the 178 gr ELD-X bullets. Today I tried N550 and had a couple of decent loads, but not great. What distance from the lands have you guys had success with ELD-X bullets. I want to try working the seating distance on the best load I tried today.

I use the ELDX in 30.06, 280 AI, and 6.5 CM. I found them to be pretty easy to load in reference to seating depth, and I just load them .030 off, for consistency. All my loads are 3-round groups under .75 moa.

One of the 4350's should do you some good...and 20k-30k off is where most find success.
I tried both IMR and H4350. No bueno! N550 looks the most promising thus far.

The gun shoots 150 Nosler BT's really well over Win 760. Im trying to find a little heavier alternative.

I haven't used the 178 ELDX… so can't help with load data.
I have used lots of 165 grain bullets in 30-06 and every one of them shot well with H4350. I also use Speer Impact 172 with H4350 and it has been a great bullet in accuracy and terminal performance.

FWIW… I've never had success with N550 in a long action.
Worked well in a couple short action and short magnums.

I probably should include that i have no idea how far off the current loads were. They were set to Hornady's COAL and shot. The 53.0 grain max load showed the most promise. I think they will shoot with some depth adjustment. You guys are helping me with a starting place 😉

Here is Nosler load data for 175 and 180 grain.

RL17 and RL19 for best results for me, H4831 also showed promise, and is probably much easier to find than the other two right now lol, but the Alliant ones were great for me. Never tried N550 but N570 has shot great for me in every rifle I've tried, so it wouldn't surprise me if N550 was a great fit for the 06

For seating depth, I loaded to max magazine length (3.340) and barely tweaked it from there and found a node that was half MOA. I highly recommend lapua or other premium brass, I never got Hornady brass to shoot well.

It's hard for us to tell you what's gonna work in your rifle.

Just take your best 2 loads, shoot in .005 increments from .010 min up

But my guess is you should try a slower powder. Like N560 or hunter.

I have heard some rifles just don't like the ELD-X's. I have loaded for a few and most have been on, but I do have a 6mm ARC gas gun that just doesn't seem to like them.

What is the planned use of the rifle, and at what range?

I already have a phenomenal hunting load for the gun.

Im looking for something now to bang steel at 1000 yards with. And, maybe, the ELD-X isn't it. Just the bullet we had setting on the shelf that was screaming "try me".

I've tried many different ways to determine seating depth. I've landed on the Berger bullets approach. I use it it for all bullets…not just Berger.
