Dogs on property

This is a subject that gets my juices flowing. I live in a rural area. There are lots of dogs running around, some of them feral. Here are my thoughts:
- If a dog comes in your yard, but is non-threatening, then talk to the owner, or call the law to handle it.
- If a dog is walking around in the woods while you are hunting, no harm no foul. It is a dog, and that is what they do.
- If a dog is chasing deer, so what? It is just a dog, and that is what they do, plus it helps move deer around.
- If a dog is in the process of killing your animals, then it has forfeited life.
- If a dog threatens you or family, then it has forfeited life.
- If my dog does something that offends you, talk to me. I am a reasonable man, and will try to resolve it.
Final word, and I am deadly serious. If you shoot my dog for no reason other than it was walking where you didn't like, then be prepared to finish the fight with me. You won't win, I guarantee.
I had picked a big cypress tree to sit at the base of on a swamp crossing one morning. 3 feral dogs winded me as they passed and started growling, and showing teeth, and trying to get closer. None had collars. They weren't but 10 yards away. I'm not sure what kind of medicine my old 870 was dealing out. But as Festus Haggen said, "They didn't hardly linger none at all".

50gr VMAX @ 3500FPS from my slingshot. Feral dogs are a big health problem. My neighbor lost his left leg and almost his LIFE because of a couple harmless pets 0ff leash attacked my neighbor in HIS yard. 0wner of the dogs got lrate after the dog catcher came and picked her 2 darlings. She kept defending her mutts, saying, ''My darlings would not hurt a fly''.

A fat fine and an even bigger lawsuit shut that yap. No help for a lost leg and medical bills hefty enough to build USS DONALD TRUMP battleship
Had a Friend who's little Sister was Maulled by (just) running loose dogs! PACK OF DOGS! Was a Pistol shooter and when the Police, dog catcher DID NOTHING, He did! Every DOG RUNNING LOSE from that Day was SHOT DEAD! Even the Police did nothing! Never said a Word!👍👍

A friend and neighbor was walking out with his young kids when they were all attacked by a stray pit bull. The little village across from his house are like Michael Vick abusing animals.
My neighbor fought the dog off with his hands to lets the little ones get inside. Then somehow disengaged and got into the house. He ended up killing the dog as it was trying to chew through the storm door to get inside. The kids were ok. He had some defensive wounds which were not major. Thankfully the dog tested negative for rabies

I hate to admit it, but I have put down one dog while out hunting. I was standing in a creek bottom when a white pitbull ran out of the woods to the edge of the creek. I looked up and said, "what are you chasing boy?" He growled and his hackles rose up (no collar). I left him where he growled.

I love my dogs, other's dogs, not so much. It's not the dog's fault for doing dog things, it's their owners fault. Unfortunately, the dog/cat pays the price because owners don't listen to complaints and you can't shoot the owner unfortunately. I vote for shooting a menace dog/cat.
I am dealing with a neighbor now that cannot keep his GSP at home. I can't even use my rifle range unless I call him and make an appointment for him to put the dog up. I can't blank train my retriever with a dummy in my own yard. The problem is if anyone shoots within a mile and the dog hears it, he's there within minutes. He always gets between you and the target and will not move. I'd leash him but I can't catch him. I'm not the only one, he's had comeplaintsnfrom the entire community. I can't even use blanks training my retriever in my own yard. He also visits deer stands regularly during hunting season and runs ducks off of the duck ponds. We have a 30 year old covenant in here against dogs running at large. I've known the guy all my life and he is Real Stupid. But if he doesn't know his dog is on borrowed time by now, he will never figure it out. I'm not going to shoot him, but someone will. And it won't be long. Again, it's not the dog, it's the owner. Though I'd have to say this dog isn't very bright.

I discriminate when it comes to pit bulls, unless their ours. Zero tolerance.

Personally, I would use the LE/ less lethal "crowd control" 12 gauge options directed on the hindquarters of that animal. Plenty of options out there with a simple www.startpage.com search. (I boycott G00gle)

I like dogs a LOT. Very rare that I've met one I didn't like. Grew up with a ~120 lbs mutt who positively knew that every child was hers to protect, and they could do no wrong. If it was a kid pulling her ear or tail it was fine. Even visitor's kids. Parents had to get one of mine to allow them claim their own kid back from her, and she still wasn't convinced that they could be trusted with one of "her" kids. We didn't train her to do that, she just did it. Her name was "Boogie" and her legends have lived within the family and those who knew her for decades.

I have no tolerance for poorly behaved dogs on the loose. Maybe that's a result of partially growing up in cattle country, dunno. A stray dog that denied me the use of my own property more than once would die of sudden and acute lead poisoning, and be buried before it finished bleeding out. And I would hate doing it, but some owners destroy their dogs and once that's done there's usually no saving them.

This reminds me of my Chesapeake that I had. Every Sunday we had family lunch at the river cabin. Little children could walk around with food in their hand. Buddy would never touch it.
His specialty was with kids/adults swimming. He was a very strong swimmer. If someone went under he would swim circles over them until they came back up. If someone got too tired they could grab his tail and he would pull them to the bank. He was basically a canine lifeguard. I've never seen a dog with more grit and determination than he had.

A man's dog kept running through people's property and the owner of the dog said as long as he's not hurting anything and you shoot him you will have me to deal with. His dog ran onto the wrong property and was shot and when the owner found out he went to confront the man as he promised he would do He also got shot when he tried to enter the home of the man who shot his dog. The landowner was not charged due to self-defense of home and property. Moral to this story is leave sleeping dogs where they lay and you may live longer. Don't try to be a bad axx.

I personally think a person with neighbors needs to keep his dog under control and off of other peoples property unless those people agree to him coming on their property. That is easier today than ever before. Owning a pet is a responsibility. Get an E-fence. Control your dog! Neighbors have property rights as well. But my property is my little kingdom and I choose whether and which dogs come on it. I have an issue right now with a neighbors dog. But so does the whole neighborhood. The dog is on borrowed time. But I can't be the one that takes care of it. A deer or turkey hunter will soon when he busts their hunt one to many times. The owner has been told that. For now I use less than lethal means. Honestly this place has gone to Shiite since this family moved in. Stupid doesn't do them justice!

I mentioned this once before. My dad had problem with neighbor's dog urinating on shrubs in front landscape and killing them. Neighbor said "dogs will be dogs" live with it. I just replaced my weedburner electric fence with stronger unit since pen size was increased. 🤔 Yup. Strung wire in multiple layers on landscaping. Didn't take long. My parents were eating lunch when they heard someone butchering a dog alive on their front yard. I think the whole neighborhood did! Dog was dragging butt in grass not yelping but kind of screaming. Neighbor was outraged and called police. They show up and fence was gone. So I had to swing by and talk to them. They saw the landscaping damage, notes on every call to neighbor and then started laughing. Then it went downhill fast. Mentioned they had a problem where a guy did same on neighbor's landscaping in some sort of boundary dispute. Wondered how it would work? Owwww.
