Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

Tikka T-3. 1-14T. I struggled to get it to shoot less than 1 MOA with bullets heavier than 50grains. Currently I'm using 40 g SBlitzKing with 33.4 gr IMR 3031; 3545 fps; 2.35" OAL, shoots cloverleafs. I've used this gun to train a number of youngsters shooting their first centerfires. Low recoil, and shoots like a laser. Great cartridge.

Typical grouping with 38.5g H380 here as well. Even for these old eyes. 22-250 and 20 VT are my go to small game slayers

My first center-fire rifle was a Remington 788 in 22-250. Wish I still had it. Then I bought a Win. Mod. 70 heavy barrel 22-250. It had a long action . It was very accurate with loads. Sold it. Stupid....
Then at a gunshow many years ago I traded an Armalite AR180 for a Sako heavy barrel 23-250. I didn't get to work on loads a lot for it but what I did shot great. All had 1 in 14 twist though. I shot mostly 50 to 60 gr. bullets in them. I still have the Sako but haven't shot it in probably 20 yrs. 😳

I have 2, both Savages, both with 1-12 twist. One is over 11 pounds and the other is just over 9 pounds with the Shilen barrel. One likes Varget and the other 4064. Both shoot Sierra 55gr Gamekings very well. I've killed groundhogs out to 470 yards with the heavy gun. So far, the lighter rifle has only killed paper.

Assuming you were shooting the same weight pills, where did you see a difference in powders? ES/SD or groups? Just curious as I have a Savage also.

I was doing the load development on the model (heavy) 12 and hit on the Varget load and didn't see any point in going farther. I did shoot some 4064 but didn't get too serious with it. The model 11 is a lefty I screwed a Shilen 24" SS select match on. It shot the Varget well, but the 4064 groups averaged better.

Edit: Yes, same bullets.

Picked up a used REM 788 with a bad trigger (would fire when bolt was closed) for $300 this last year. Put in a Timney trigger. Worked up a load for 55 grain Hornady soft points with H380. Gun is deadly accurate. Glassed a coyote sleeping on a south facing hill this afternoon. Ranged it at 290 yards. Coyote never woke up from its nap.
