Been thinking about getting a custom rifle made and retiring my sentimental rifle.... Anyone build a custom rifle they thought was to much $$$ to beat up in the woods?

Just asking if for most normal shot apportunities they are sub 100 yards but on the off chance you get more ( of course distance shots needs practice ) would you rather tote a cheaper ruger american or savage axis?

Torn between retiring a gun with sentimental value to replace with something I might still be afraid to "hurt" while hunting

Anyone else have this dilemma

I repaired an old Remington 22 semi auto stock on my dad's rifle. My older brother broke a chunk out of the butt. It looks as new now. His Remington 1100 occasionally comes out for dove only. I would hate to mess one of those up. So they sit. Not sure who to pass those classics down to.

I have a old 5 digit serial number model 700 adl 30-06 that I know I shot at 6 years old with a father to catch me, odd enough barrel code are my initials. I love it but am considering retirement unless perfect conditions.

I have had high end rifle that I "babied" the same.... but nothing can replace the past just wondering if a new and improved with be treated the same

Rifles are tools. I'll pay for a cool cerakote job, but they are going to get beat up. I was on a moose hunt in NWT this September and my custom rifle and nice scope lived on the outside of my pack for the duration, and have a few marks to show for it. I take care of my things but I use them as intended.

I only build rifles that are to be used. Fist scuffs the hardest... gets easier after that.
I had that same feeling about my first new truck.... after the first Stone hit on the highway..... I still have a chipped windshield and nuggets and fries in the kids seats that will survive a nuclear apocalypse

I built probably my nicest and most expensive rig right before some fairly substantial health issues hit. Was several years of pt and recovery learning to do some basic things again. Testament to those components, my stubborn self hauled them up and promptly rolled back down all manner of terrain.

Pick good components and they last forever, its not that much to have something re cerakote'd if you really give it a beating.

I do not have such a dilemma.

I was bear hunting with my cousin and he likes to hunt with his old trusty stand by. He fell with it while hunting and cracked the stock. He now only uses it where he knows the area. Since purchased a production made gun that I believe was cerakoted and had a fiber stock.
