New Mexico will require a flintlock or percussion cap, open sights, plus black powder or pryrodex. I use a 54 cal. Hawkin throwing 425 grain great plains slugs for elk.

This is not entirely correct. Those restrictions are only for the "restrictioned muzzleloader deer" seasons which are a tiny minority of the NM muzzleloader hunts.
