Changing Bullet Seating Depth

So, after seating Barnes bullets it was discovered that gremlins has messed with the math and bullets were seated too deep. Would you use a hammer-type bullet remover to increase the length and then reseat again? Or would you remove the bullet, resize the case, and reseat the bullet? Asking for a friend.

It's probably better to pull completely, resize, then seat again.

You could try the hammer type, give a couple of whacks and reseat. Just not sure how that would effect neck tension.

This! Unless you have neck tension issues. Are you using bushing dies?

I've only heard of 2 hammer-types causing detonations.
One was Dad and one was a good friend, FYI.
Not from the internet…

I have used the kinetic hammer type for thousands of rounds...but...I had a detonation once. 28 Nosler.
Luckily, the primer is the only thing that ignited. Did NOT ignite the powder. The primer is still stuck in my bathroom ceiling. Scared the $#! + out of me. So wear eye protection, and keep.out of a direct line of travel at the back of the hammer.

Of all my bullet pullers, I prefer the kinetic hammer over the collet and grip-n-pull. However, I learned not to make too many mistakes instead.

I usually use a grip n pull. Got tired of the mess with powder while using the hammer type.

If it was me, and I have had to do this many times, I would pull all bullets, re-size and start over.
For my comp shooting, I load long, then at the match they all get their final seating depth, this provides 2 things. As I don't run heavy bullet interference, .001"-.0015", I run touching but no jam, this causes my bullets to easily slip under primer ignition and, secondly, there is no chance of bullet weld, which plagued me prior to me lubing my necks.
If you re-seat, you will be changing bullet seating force if you don't size the cases again.

Yes on the dies.

Excellent! If you have neck tension issues, you might consider a tad tighter bushing. I have never had problems with those I used a hammer to elongate to the proper CBTO/COAL. Good luck!

Me neither! Lance's was the only one I have seen/heard. When he first shared it from another thread, it further reinforced the need to slow down, avoid mistakes in my reloading process, wear PPE, and remember that Murphy does not discriminate. I probably had 20 that I had to remove bullets, resize, and re-seat in nearly 5 decades. Two of which was in the last 2 years, I needed to bump the shoulder, the process got away from me on my first load of 20 on my wildcat.
