My guess is that it depends on bullet profile, like tangent or secant and configuration of leade. I knew a high scoring gunsmith & shooter who seated bullets so they touched & also measured ogives for uniformity.
Stats have always been of interest for me - to enable performance predictions within certain parameters, like probability. I developed a spread sheet that will give stats within various probability ranges, like the bell shaped curve with tails on each end. This would be useful to predict/estimate data for a variety of conditions, like velocity, ogive, measurements, and pressure for a batch of ammo. Various T values can be selected for sample sizes, like high for small size sample & lower for larger size samples. Probability ranges may also be selected like 98% or 95%.
An example for velocity:
Ultimately - how good does it shoot? A PD shoot might use up 400 or more rounds.
I am working on bullet hole stats, like group shapes, like page 140 in Berger manual.

Been busy hunting and lost track of this post.
WOW!!
Reading some of this today makes me realize how much different points of veiw( experience) are needed. My filter will be working overtime tonight reading and absorbing the content.
I'm still taking the 300 rum with that load as back up for my Wyoming elk hunt. Verified it (once) this morning out to 700.
338 RBH (338 Norma mag improved) is primary. It's been validated numerous(10+) times with the load.

7mm Rem Mag reloaders - can I have some knowledge from your experience? I've had my 7mm Rem Mag now about 2 years. I had difficulty finding a bullet that this particular barrel would stabilize. Went to NRAWC this past week and FINALLY settled on a 150 gr bullet. Do some of you also use the 150 gr and if so, what powder load are you putting behind it? I now have roughly 200 pcs of brass ready to reload. My hope is - as long as it took to find a good stabilizing bullet - I hope it does not take as long to get the load right. So I am asking you folks to share with me your 150 gr bullet recipes - please.
No 150's. I wanted something heavier for 1,000 yards (and I found it). I finally settled on N560. Started with H1000 and others. I've had the Sendero for a long time. It took me a while to get it lined out but here's two examples. Both are tuner tests. I put a Cortina Tuner Brake on it. The old radial brake was almost useless :
Thanks, but I am trying to stay with the 150 gr projectile. I've shot probably 200 or so rounds of differing weights and conformations. I think I'll settle on the 150 gr - if I can find the right powder and measure.
What brand 150gr bullet is it.

Sorry KEC, I'm sitting in Indy visiting kids and grands. All my records are back at home in Texas. I'll have to get there to see my notes on what manufacturer/variation worked in the 150 gr.
N560, according to Vihtavuori, works well with 150gr bullets.
