Just got back in a few minutes ago. Shot (11) bees with single shots and then got a TROPHY!!!
Shot a WHITE FACED HORNET!

We had a standoff about 15' away- The Super Hornet (White Face Devil) started to build a cone nest in the top part of our Deck. He saw me shooting the other Bees and took flight right at me with his legs forward and his STINGER poised for a strike. It brought me back into the days I ended up in the Hospital from the venom in the Stinger. I had only miliseconds to react! Turned the BuckMark Barrel in the direction of his flight pattern 10', 9', 8' 7', 6' my brain kept saying SHOOT, but my finger was slow to respond 5' the trigger was squeezed, the hammer fell, primer went off, charge ignited, shot roared through the barrel and several #12 pellets struct this demon.
I WAS SAVED BY PURE INSTINCT SURVIVAL!
Alas my aim was TRUE!
I survived!

True story.
I got stung by 13 of these buggers when I was 14 years old and ended up in the hospital and almost died.
Been deathly afraid of them ever since.
Thank God for a good BuckMark Pistol and CCI Shot Shells!

In my part of the country we call them bald-faced bees.
And yes they are mean devils!

I have to admit I did not know bees were fish. The good news is, there's no rule about using steel shot to shoot fish. Is there?

I love to make a square carpenter bee, as it passes through the square holes
Remember if you kill one the pheromones on the dead attracts others
Watch them come to the area of your kill
Also if you use the traps, leave the dead bees in to attract other victims
Yes I have used ratshot,badminton rackets,traps and shotguns in my yearly battle with these hole borers

Well it is that time of the year again. Several weeks ago I started seeing Carpenter Bees flying around our house. Didn't pay much attention. Then last week I hardly saw any so thought it is past their drilling season. Now this past week we were in the 70s and 80s.
Well I was out yesterday on our back deck and saw more Carpenter Bees thsn I ever saw in my life. They are trying to drill everywhere and fighting with each other.
I got (8) with the Tennis racket and (4) with Bee spray. It is time to break our the 22 with Snake/Rat shot. Shot a whole bunch in previous year. I use a rifle with iron sights. Have to let them get out about 15' to get a good pattern on them (shoot while they hover). Best wat is to shoot a piece of paper and when you get about a Cantaloupe size group - That's your killing distance. (make sure that you don't shoot your house)!

Now that sounds like fun......

You guys are killing bees and I have to shovel snow tomorrow when I get home. My dogs can't get off of the back porch yet to use their bathroom. On Tuesday the snow drift touched the eight foot porch roof. Yesterday it warmed up to about 40 degrees, and this weekend will be close to 60 degrees. Another two weeks of warm weather and I will be fighting hornets. Thanks for some ideas.

We don't miss the cold weather and snow although would like to see some snow once in a while.
It won't be long and we will be battling 100 degree+ with high humidity.

We used the bee traps from wood and mason jars. It works when I ain't there. I do like shooting them but I only have so much time

Enjoyed what others were using on carpenter bees! We mainly just shoot them in the air with daisy red rider bb guns! This helps keep our shooting eyes ready for dove season! The secret is to find a gun that shoots straight! Bout half shoot off to one side or the other. Son has a video somewhere of grandson shooting them at a young age 8-10 I'm not sure! I'll post it if can find it. It pretty sporty Tribb
