I use calipers all day, every day. I prefer the dial calipers do to the toughness and repeating, I have two cheaper sets that stay out and a set of nice Starretts that stay in the case in a drawer when I am not using them, I do have a set of Mitutoyo digital's but rarely use them, just have to make sure you zero them or they can get you in trouble sometimes. I mainly use a set of import steel .001 dial 6 inchers that i keep out at the machines and when i need to be close I break out the out side mics
