Bullets for Aoudad

I have an Aoudad hunt planned. And I'll be using a .300 PRC with a 1:8 twist barrel. I was told to use Accubond type bullet. Of course, there are NO Nosler Accubonds nor Long Range Accubonds out there. So was bought some Barnes 212gr LRX's. Because of my twist rate. When I opened them up just to take a peek at them, my first thought was I'm I going to be able seat these low enough to mag feed them.

So my search went on. I have been looking at the Barnes 190, 200, and 208 LRX's. Right now, I can only find 190 and 208's.

My question, would it be a good idea to use a lower weight bullet like a 175-180 in a 1:8 twist 300 PRC? Or should I look at Hammer bullets?

Thank you in advance

Jason

199 hammer is 19 for 19 out to 420 yards for me up to thousand pound African animals.

Petals break off and cause his damage. Only recovered one shank/base of bullet.

Easy to load and have worked in two different 300prc. RL26 got me 3130 fps. N570 has gotten me 3175fps. 26 inch 9 twist barrels.

Any questions let me know... and no i don't have any affiliation with hammer.

My two PH's i was with said it was the best they've seen across the board for consistent performance. They saw my buddy and i go 14 for 14 with it.

Thank you ya'll for the replies. Keep them coming. I like hearing what you guys are using.

nwmnbowhunter,
Are you loading those 199 Hammers to fit in the mag?

Jason

You can't go wrong with any of those choices-- any .30cal mono at 300prc velocities will do the trick for certain on an Aoudad.

Mine fell to a 131gr BJ from a fast twist .257wby- DRT

Aoudad are relatively small. Use pretty much any hunting bullet that shoots well. A lighter Barnes would work but so would an ELDX.

A good cup and core bullet that your rifle shoots well is fine also.
I think people are getting too caught up with those newer fancy bullets that kill better than this or that.
I've killed a few Aoudad with a 6.5-284 and 140 NBT. None left the scene or required a second shot.

Don't complicate it unnecessarily; pick the one you can get, shoot well out of your rifle, and go for it.

I've taken 2 Aoudad both with a 257 Weatherby, 110 Grain Sierra TGK on the 1st one and 131 Blackjack on the 2nd one. 1st one about 280 yards collapsed like you unplugged him, the 2nd one 340 yards walked about 10 feet and collapsed and was dead when I got to him.
That 212 Barnes will be his end for sure. They are tough animals, especially if you don't shoot em the right spot.
