Wanna get one for a budget build since MDT doesn't look like their releasing their field stock anytime soon for the patriot line of rifles ( al ready have the gun laying around ) and for the price I can get the Boyds with the adjustable comb for a bit less. Anyhow wanted to know if anyone has modded one of these stock for whatever reason. I'd like to thin down the forearm a bit because the one on my 30-06 if pretty friggen thick and not the nicest thing to hump around and maybe deep and thin the hip a tiny bit. Anyone don't something like this or anything to one of these stocks ? Any tips ?

Not the pro varmint, but a featherlight thumbhole stock.
Shortened the forearm a couple inches and took the edges off the bottom to make it more comfortable to carry.

Also pillar bedded and glass bedded it as well.

Pretty simple really, didn't have to do any staining just new finish.
If I recall, I called boyds and they were pretty helpful.

I have one on a rimfire that I keep thinking about slimming down. I may have to do it to loose some weight and retain the characteristics that make it a very good shooting stock. Nice thing is they are low cost, wood so sand away, then texture and paint. Do it.
